Did the colorist not even bother reading the strip?

The colorist wondered why the football was white too…

I’m with the colorist. I don’t like footballs that aren’t brown. That’s just not right.

Now that is what I call “stupid.” I agree with Kaputnik above. Why do they even feel compelled to colorize b/w material? There was nothing lacking in the first place. It takes special skill to communicate clearly and cleverly in halftones, let us admire it, not erase it.

As everyone noticed, either the inker couldn’t or didn’t read the first two panels. I do have a football that’s white (with a bit of red), but only because it was specifically made to be autographed by players and coaches from my college team.

I remember back in the 50s, our high school used white footballs with black stripes for night games. Notice how the nfl footballs are getting darker and blacker.

It’s always nice to see Shermie make an appearance, as he only does in the Peanuts Begins strips.

Christmas 1956 I got a white football…they were a thing just as Shermy says. Haven’t seen one in years.

I empathize with CB. When I was 7, I had to go to bed when it was still light out. The reason given was that my 3 year old sister (and baby brother) had to go to bed then and would get upset if I were allowed to stay up. The other reason, of course, was “because I say so”. And in the 1950’s that reason stuck.
