We prepare for the return of the prodigal son…and daughter.
Sadly, the kitten’s forever home did not work out. The ginger and tortie must return to the castle. It seems that the 2 adult cats in the house were just not adopting or adapting. Nothing horrible, but it just wasn’t going to work.
So, per our agreement in the event of calamity, they are returning tomorrow.
Lisa and I have decided that they will stay here, in their new old forever home. Given their still tender age and lack of brain cells we have chosen to eject the silly and stereotypical cute kitten names they were saddled with.
The official announcement will come on the morrow with my report on the triumphant return. I am quite certain the BKN followers will heartily approve.
Regarding Lupin’s insight that we’re re all paper towels, here’s a similar observation from another unconventional artist.
The installation consists of 118 glass bottles sitting side by side on a long shelf. Each bottle is two-thirds full of water and has been labelled, almost at random, with the name of someone famous, from Sid Vicious to Hitler to Virginia Woolf.
The performance that accompanies the installation includes this refrain:
An epiphany is described as a new insight or “an intuitive grasp of reality through something (as an event) usually simple and striking an illuminating discovery”.
In the liturgical calendar, we are one week past Epiphany season.
And in the next to last panel of today’s story, we see little Puck, in a subtle and understated revelation, experiencing his own private epiphany. Sophie’s work has been received.
Sophie’s cute burgundy beret! I always hear her in my head with a French accent and her little artist’s outfit just exemplifies this idea. I love it! Maybe Sophie and Lupin can collaborate at some point—they both have a knack for working with toilet roll. :-)
I am beyond angry! (I know y’all will understand, so I came here to vent.) Something compelled me to check my late cousin’s Facebook page for the first time. (She’s the one I inherited the colony from.) Come to find out, one of her friends was practically begging to take all of her animals, dog and cats, but her “best friend” who had promised her she would care for them never said a word to me about it! This was well before I cut off all contact with her for telling me not to worry, the “cat problem” was “taken care of” – she was calling Animal Control to have them all killed! (Which is partly how I decided they were my responsibility now.) They lied to the friend who wanted everyone & told her that they “couldn’t part with the dears!” Even swore that the best friend’s daughter had the dog. Not only does she not have her, but I was the one to find her a home with a vet tech at my vet’s office!
Everyone here knows I love all of the members of the colony & don’t mind caring for them, but this just makes me ridiculously angry. I almost wish I hadn’t deleted the woman’s number when I changed the locks on her.

Congratulations, Georgia! Just read the most popular 12 comics of 2018 ( https://www.gocomics.com/blog/4779/the-12-most-popular-comic-strips-of-2018 ) and was that BCN made multiple lists. Great job!
One of my all time favorite strips!!! <3 I am so happy to see it translated well to the new format. I have my fingers crossed that the follow-up piece will also appear.
“We were lucky enough to make two of these lists! ‘Breaking Cat News’ was the second most “liked” comic on GoComics in 2018, and had the third most comments!!
This all comes directly from you, and I can’t thank you enough! Thank you for reading BCN and liking it the way you do and being so kind and awesome to one another in the comments! ❤️
Toilet lids should always stay in the downward position. As someone with 2 dogs and 2 water cats and 2 other cats who are used to the lid always being down. It is a must. The water cats (Bengals) will just play until the toilet is dry and the floor wet. The dogs of course would drink it dry even though there are 2 perfectly good 1 gallon bowls that get filled and scrubbed daily 1 of which is in a bathroom shower. The other 2 are used to using the toilet as a springboard to get on the vanity to get to the kitty fountain for a refreshing drink. Open lids are not conducive to this and kitties get pissy when landing in an open toilet that should have been closed. So closed toilet lids at my house.
My Sammy prefers to work in cardboard and newspaper though he will also render works in other paper types (usually that are very important to people like receipts). He also works with plastic strapping and milk carton pull tabs. Fortunately he has no interest in using the toilet as part of his art work though the water bowl often is. I think he would get along well with Sophie :)
The Woman has what she always wanted: a Disney cat!
Last night I discovered Ember believes that everything the light touches is hers. Including the golf course that adjoins this apartment complex’s property. She went absolutely ballistic when she looked out the window and saw a cat near the tee last night.
Last Monday, I took Grace (for Grace Hopper) for a vet visit and scheduled her appointment to be spayed. On Tuesday, she went into heat. It has been a bit nerve wracking. I am hoping it passes soon. She has been super affectionate, but also seems kind of miserable. I had hoped to spare her this. Caramel, who was spayed before her first heat is rather puzzled by it all.
After lurking on the old site and here almost since this all started. I had to sign in and say hello. I will most likely just go back to the dark corner and watch quietly but I wanted to say that I really enjoy this commentariat. You guys are just the best
It’s still me; BillJackson1. GoComics won’t let me log in through Gmail, so I tried a free account. So far so good, but it won’t upload an icon (30kb .jpg). It says it’s loading, abut after 5 minutes it’s still “loading”.
Well, since we we are sharing… I am 65 and have not had a personal cat for 45 years. My Robin was brought home as a what looked like a just weaned kitten. Full fight and vinegar. She has been slow to warm up top me-in the process I ended up alone- but she and I have come to terms. She is a beautiful red/orange tabby with a white throat and tummy. A Small head and a long tail. And very sharp toes. She tells me when it is time to go to bed and when to get up. I had forgotten how much I love cats and how good they make me feel. I am so glad to be in this community and enjoy all the comments. Kibble for all!
I can personally relate to Sophie’s art today. Middle school has changed me, and not all in good ways.I once got bullied because of my race in my first year, and I didn’t even know it. It was just annoying to me at first, but it soon started to make me mad. i took care of it, and I now know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of racism. This year, I started getting bullied by a teammate. This still happens, but I know now that it’s best to ignore it. It still hurts, but I’ve already tried everything. There’s nothing I can do.In Sophie’s words, change has caused me to unravel and grow. Change affects us all, and in many different ways. Sophie’s art helps put that into perspective.

You’re right, Sophie. Art should have no limits. My favorite video game, Ōkami, is a brilliant work of art!

♥ ♥ ♥ Sophie and her Woman smiling in panel eight.
Does Sophie have plans for that empty paper towel roll beside her? Maybe in her next art installation.

Come, gather around, kitties
All through the home
And admit that the towels in the toilet have grown
And accept it that soon
They will have to be thrown
If the Humans think towels are worth savin’
Then they need to start rollin’ them back into rolls
But the rolls aren’t the same
For the towels, they are a-changin’
