The modern update of the “A Fox, Chicken and Sack of Grain”
(You have a fox, a chicken and a sack of grain. You must cross a river with only one of them at a time. If you leave the fox with the chicken he will eat it; if you leave the chicken with the grain he will eat it. How can you get all three across safely?)
I have done this very thing – although my cat won’t really go after “people food”… I used to feed her the fancy cat foods too, but I found that while I thought she was a “feline gourmand”, she would rather eat fast food (a.k.a., “Cat Chow”)… ;-)
This happened to me just yesterday! I was reading the comics, got up to do something and my oldest cat got up on the table and started lapping the milk in my cereal!
It works for the cartoon but I cannot carry my 18 lb tom cat under one arm. It’s like carrying wet cement with claws. Gotta’ cradle him with two arms or he just slides out. BTW that’s him in my avatar…
forget cats – in my house the cat is cool HOWEVER the 2 little dogs will immediately eat anything left unattended for 5 seconds or a head turn whichever is shortest. Having said that – I did catch the cat dumping a plate of food off the piano unto the floor for the dogs once……………
The cartoon that got me hooked on this comic was the one where Luddy stuck his head in his bowl just as Arlo began pouring the cat food in it, and Arlo explained the reason he did it was something to do with “winning if you got the very first kibble in the bowl”. You have the cat down very well (not to mention his owners).

Smart!
.
Lol! I love the artwork here!
The double take (sort of) in the third panel is excellently rendered!
But that last panel… priceless!
I can’t remember when or if we’ve ever seen Ludwig look like that.
Just… perfection!

The joke, of course, is that he can’t leave Luddy there while he goes back after the remote.

Now if Luddy will just co-operate.

How can the farmer bring the wolf the goat and the cabbage across the river?

Arlo doesn’t want Ludwig to eat his snacks while he looks for the remote.

The next problem is how to eat the snack — presumably with just one hand.

It would be more sensible to keep the meal in hand for the return trip. The cat could escape his grasp!

Arlo knows that when the chips are down Luddie can’t be trusted.

LOL, my neighbor had a similar experience with a little dog and a bowl of potato soup. Never knew dogs liked potato soup!

This is so perfect, protect your food, take the cat with you to get that cell phone!

Methinks Arlo is wise to distrust the cat.

Just like our cat, I wouldn’t trust him as for as I could throw him, and I feel lìke ìt sometimes.:)

Can’t trust Ludwig?
boydwwadams almost 6 years ago
It appears to me that Arlo has Ludwig in hand whilst he retrieves his phone, rather than leaving Ludwig behind to stand guard over his sandwich…Maybe?

It is mislabelled; it should be called a “phone cell.”…
