Hello! I’ve been trying to post a longer intro of myself & my girl Marcy (avatar) but am having problems. It was posted late on the 14th (fullmoondeb suggested I post it again earlier) thanks to a “one-time favor” from the moderator but it seems I can only do short comments now since I was just able to post one above. So hello & we’ll see if this goes…
Words from SheMc dear Mega Orb: “Please thank everyone for me, We spent the day with doctors but Jan has a lung infection, I was worried it might be the liver tumor, so, there’s still a possibility of us getting to the funeral in Edmonton xxx such lovely words from the kitty club, my heart is breaking but gratified at the same time , thank you sooooo very much ,xxxx” (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((SheMc, Jan, and all in the Mega Orb for all your wonderful, loving support)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Calls to mind the fallout shelters that proliferated in the 1950s. They were everywhere, but often invisible. There was one in the sub-basement of a Five and Ten store in my little Mississippi town. [Speaking of bygone institutions….] In the mid-1970s, in Houston, I helped clear out the contents of an old fallout shelter under an enormous Episcopal church. The foodstuffs seemed to have crossed over into the next world, except for huge sealed cans of peanut butter which were quite basic but still tasty, and similar three gallon containers of lemon drops. There were enough lemon drops to keep the congregation supplied for a couple of years.
My grandmother had an ocelot (it was marketed as a “unique kitten” in a box at the Farmer’s Market in LA in the late ‘50s, the family was on a cross-country trip, Grandma, who ended up running a cat rescue in her later years, thought it looked sick and underfed, and that’s enough back story). Cleopatra lived a long and happy life with Grandma and Grandpa (who she adored, and would follow anywhere), which she wouldn’t have done in the wild, because she had a chronic illness that required periodic steroids. And when she was stubborn about her bedtime, Grandpa would get out the hose from the central vacuum system and she would back away from it slowly all the way to her bedroom.
Hello all! I figured I would introduce myself and all of our kitties (and our dog, too!) My husband never wanted anything but outside cats when we lived down south (because of fleas mostly, and we had very young children so didn’t want flea meds on inside pets that kids could come in contact with.) Moved to the Northwest and one child dearly wished for her own cat. We adopted Uma, a little black kitty who is sweet, but doesn’t want to live indoors. Found out after adoption that her foster had a dog door and the cats would come and go as they pleased. So she is our garage/outdoor kitty by her choice. Then came Elsa, for the same daughter’s birthday. She is a snowshoe kitty with the attitude of a diva. She is our only non-shelter cat and she rules the roost! Then our eldest daughter wanted her own kitty!
Whenever we vacuum, we always move furniture around, so NOWHERE IS SAFE. Also, my cat seems to like sniffing the vac when it’s running, is this normal?
This whole arc is a great gentle send up of the whole emergency preparedness hysteria that precedes any storm of no matter what magnitude predicted no matter what actually happens. I have sometimes wondered what people do with all the milk? Even without a power failure milk only keeps so long.
Wow! Marcy & I want to thank you all very, very much for the wonderfully kind & enthusiastic welcome! (what’s that? yeah, I’ve been peeling onions…right…yeah, that’s it!? that’s gotta be it…) Also thanks for the helpful GC tips. Your kindness is most appreciated <^••^> We’re sending (((HUGS from me))) & {{{NOSE TOUCHES from Marcy}}} to all our new friends, especially those w/extra troubles. And special thanks to Georgia (the lady w/amazing talent) & her cohorts (the captivating fuzz bunch) for making this all possible &, most importantly, happily entertaining! Take care, y’all!

This feels like what I’m doing right now to prepare for when SNAP runs out of funding. :’(

Litter should be in proportion to the food and water.

The Boys’ vacuum preparedness kinda reminds me of my hurricane preparedness. I stock up on food, water, and toilet paper!

Boys, calm down. Vacuum’s are usually only on for a very short time. You only have to hide for hours.

It is no coincidence that “vacuum” more or less rhymes with ’doom".

Indeed not. Our Lupin can hear a slice of ham being moved at a massive distance. He just appears before you like magic.

Are they hiding from the vacuum or going into hibernation?
asrialfeeple almost 6 years ago
With the vacuum cleaner lurking about posing to strike, it’s no wonder many cats prefer a cabinet position.

Are those vacuum preparedness work badges?

Pucky needs a chart of different kinds of vacuums. Know your enemy!

This has nothing to do with today’s strip but I thought people here would enjoy it. Watch until the end to see what the kitten does.

I see a ‘vacuum disaster’ movie in the making, like Twister:
“Vacuum – The Movie” (with taglines: “The Dark Side of Cleaning” or “Don’t Meow! Don’t Look Back!”
OR, we could watch: “Vacuum-geddon”!! :)
