Watterson has said that this comic shows how he remembers childhood, and he never understood people that see it as an idyllic time.

I don’t remember if my childhood was that “bad.” I don’t remember what I had for breakfast yesterday either!

Another big day, huh? I guess Calvin’s gotta make it as big as it can be.

I know it’s just a cartoon, but doesn’t it seem like Calvin is a bit depressing at time. Poor kid. I hope he learns how to get a handle on the world. Well, he did, as I am sure that Watterson has obtain a handle on the world.

At least his dreams are his own.

Always loved how Moe’s speech looked different from everyone else. More primitive.

Reminds me of middle school. Ugh.

Wait until you’ve had 60 years of this, day after day.

I’ve raised children who would argue for two hours about ten minutes worth of homework and know that their math was right because the textbook and the calculator had to be wrong. I’ve also worked for companies who would fix things seven times instead of taking an entire extra ten seconds to do it right the first time and also would not train or respect people for their work because they were just going to leave anyway. Welcome to America in the 21st century.

Sometimes I would wake up at 4 in the morning dreaming about something pleasant and wish that time would just freeze at that moment.

These are the days when you determine what you will do when you grow up and are in control of your life.

A neighbor decided when he was a kid that when he grew up he would eat Frosted Flakes every day…. and now he does.

Its all about the small conquests.

I sometimes feel that way, Calvin.

I think that last panel is the most perfect summation of life I have ever seen.

Something to really look forward to….

Now THIS is what I remember about growing up: Negotiate your way around certain adults and peers alike all day, then go to bed knowing the gauntlet would be waiting in the morning.
