The lawyers were never the problem. They are only the instruments. It is the people that they represent, usually, who should be reviled. But they get to be the face of the enemy as part of their job, which, admittedly, no decent person not trained in the law would take.
I am proud to admit that my family is full of professional people: teachers, engineers, nurses and, yes, a lawyer or two. I like listening to my cousin relate some of his cases, “So this guy takes a dive on my client’s property.”
I have a friend who was a JAG officer in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejune. One weekend we were visiting him while he was on call. He got a call from the Jacksonville Police Department. His end of the conversation went like this.
“Hello, Captain XXX speaking.
How many marines?
200! How can 200 marines get in trouble all at once. What did they do: riot?
I see.
We’ll send over some trucks to pick them up and take them to our brig."
Most hackers are not malicious. By definition a hacker is just someone who is extremely interested in understanding complex systems and uses a discovery process to learn a system. A black-hat hacker is a hacker with malicious intent. Many of them are not even that smart. We call those script kiddies. They use tools created by real hackers to break into systems to do things they ought not. White hat hackers are often employed by businesses to check their systems for vulnerabilities. The line between white and black is easily crossed but intent is seldom to do bad for a white hat hacker even if he occasionally wanders over the line of legality. The black hat hacker, OTOH, is in it for money or just sheer mayhem.
If you want to get rid of lawyers then you have to streamline the whole legal system including the number and complexity of the laws.
“Let’s kill all the lawyers” is a line from William Shakespeare’s Henry VI, Part 2, Act IV, Scene 2. The full quote is “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers”.Wikipedia
Please, a hacker originally means people that open closed doors to do clever hacks to repair errors in a system but never to cause harm. But that is often forgotten.

I doubt they’re more reviled than lawyers. After all, when a hacker is caught & charged with a crime, who defends them, lawyers!

I’m just waiting for a hacker to be elected President of the United States.

You know, if you gave them directions to that spot in the woods, I’m sure the bears would be willing to make some large contributions.

As per my sister the lawyer, the lawyers lawyers despise are bankruptcy lawyers.
A person may owe child support, alimony and debts to business partners. Only the lawyer is going to get paid in full.

Yup, hackers are low. Lawyers defend them in when they are finally, if rarely, caught. Perhaps there is a little sewage left?

Reporters and politicians are definitely below lawyers now. Statistically it probably comes down to the number of lies per minute.
