If that’s what Tiffanyreally thinks, then it’s time for Gunther to check out Bets.
Monday began the cow catchers first starting to intertwine with each other. Today, the headlamps are about to touch each other. How many days before the boilers explode as they try to invade each other’s space?
And So it BEGINS. Oxford telling Tiffany about an available “job” that just happens to be opening up at Kafe Kablooie. What a Co-Inky-Dink! The GOOD News Is, Tiffany will have just a Wee Bit of Financial Freedom. The BAD News is, the “job” puts her in EASY “Groping” distance of one Les Knox.
Of Course, Tiffany COULD “Con” Les into doing ALL of her “dishwasher” dirty work in exchange for (GAG) “favors.” But does Tiffany REALLY want to be beholding to a scumbag who also happens to be the “son” of her mortal Enemy? (Tiff SHOULD Think about THAT one Long and Hard) One more thing and this is important: At Kafe Kablooie, Tiffany WILL be working for Old Smiley. Jeeze, this “Job Gig” is going from Bad to WORSE Fast, and Tiffany hasn’t even taken the job, yet.
Will she? If Ann “dings” her for spending $2.22 for tea, HECK Yeah. The REAL question Is: Would Ann be crass enough to DEMAND that Tiffany hand over part of her salary to help with household expenses since Tom is supposedly headed for the “Poor House?” Bad Times. ;)
Tiffany should live within her means, and seek employee elsewhere. Like Weenie World……,
I think many of the young people in this strip (and real life for that matter) could benefit from leaving school for a year and getting a full time job.
Tiffany is laughing at what she considers a joke, but Ox is serious. Now the question is: How bad does Tiffany want money? Will she ‘lower’ herself to do some honest labor and apply for the job?
Well, I’d not take the dishwasher job either. I’d rather look for a better one. Les is a waiter and he is a lowlife. Why not Tiffany be a waitress? Or a receptionist- She’d be perfect for that position. A pretty face at the front door to greet everyone, make polite comments, ask for the number of seats and leads them to a table. She could dress nicely – most receptionists don’t wear uniform – just a name badge. Tiffany might convince Ox to talk to the DeGroots about hiring Tiffany for that position..
Another day of the GnK dragging Tiffany around, trying make her into something she isn’t.
Perhaps the encounter with Ox will be Tiff’s “dog park moment.” But where will it lead? A better place I hope. For me that would be a place that would not lose the essence of the character. I loved her brash self-assuredness. That little-girl part that’s full of herself. Playing dress-up and just a little bit bossy – like Shannon.
Perhaps her destiny is as a cosmetician or stylist. Or how about Interior Decorator!!! I dated one for about a year. WOW! Classy, sexy, hot dresser, high maintenance! Yeah! That’s the ticket!!!
I cleaned a lot of houses and basements when I first started out. One of my very first summer jobs was cleaning out and organizing a hospital basement. Talk about a spooky place! Tiffany needs to learn that there are no small or unimportant jobs, especially when you truly need the money. I agree she’s probably not qualified to be a dish washer. Probably hasn’t wasn’t a dish in her life!
So, it seems likely that the “hilarity ensues” aspect may stem from an “I Love Lucy” style story arc where Tiffany accepts the dish-washing job and significantly above average mayhem arises.
Other points of interest (at least to me):
1. Tiffany’s grey coat (or whatever it is) actually gives more of a “lab coat” type of appearance. For whatever reason, I did not really notice it yesterday, but in the first panel today, it was especially noticeable.
2. The offer of the dishwashing position had me recalling….. Tiffany was working in the office area of the kiddie daycare that Luann was at. I seem to remember the arc saying her hours were going to be reduced…. but I do not recall her job being completely eliminated, was it?
3. I wonder if Ox will have a reaction to Tiffany’s last comment? Unfortunately, Tiffany, while perhaps not meaning to do so, was rather demeaning of a whole helluva lot of folks by her last comment.
And now Tiffany starts walking to the edge of morality wondering what is for sale and how much it’s worth. I’ll bet a nickel here that she will consider the sex industry. It would feed her hunger for attention and give her a huge dose of money. That will work for a little while before she realizes her mistake and tries to pull out from it all to regain her happiness and sanity. This will pull in Bernice as she will play a critical role in the healing process. Once put back all together Tiffany will find her calling not in superficialities but in trying to bring real change to people’s lives. We’ll see a makeup free Tiffany sooner than we think!
I think the primary audience (at least when the strip first came out) was little girls about Luann’s age and their mothers. Now, all those little girls have grown up but Luann and company are still very much children, albeit adult-sized children. I still think you have lots of growing up to do in your late teens and early 20’s. I have always found the Luann strip to be a wholesome spot where some of the more difficult issues can be discussed (does anyone remember when Delta got cancer in high school?). I think this is one of those issues to be discussed. We all go through that period where we realize, as young adults, that we are responsible for ourselves and no one else is going to take care of us (at least most of us go through that), and I think that’s what this arc (and Tiffany’s character in general) is all about. I for one, am excited to see how Greg and Karen take this one on :0)
I think I’d call the Parisian owner of Souffle Lingerie and ask whether she has some sort of job opening for Tiffany. Maybe she could not only push the line but drop hints that this is the real thing rather than the fraudulent junk that some crook was selling recently.
Dag nam Greg has taken away Tiff’s Audrey Hepburn neck again. I swear that guy would give Venus de Milo a pot belly. I hear he was rejected by Dolly Parton in his younger days and still carries a grudge against attractive blonds.
Hmm. Oxford likes Tiffany, apparently in a platonic way. Tiffany likes Oxford, also in a platonic way. But she needs income (which, unfortunately, usually involves a job), and washing dishes at Kafe Kablooie does not meet her needs nor inclinations. How desperate is Tiffany? Can Oxford do anything else to help her? (These are honest questions, not meant to be in any way “suggestive.”)
Granted, it’s not the kind of career she had planned for herself, but Tiffany really should see the benefits of the job. It’s steady, it guarantees a paycheck, and it’s deep in the kitchen where Ann cannot enter without authorization. She can earn money and hide from Ann. Win-Win!
And, she can talk to Ox about how Ann has been bullying her. Remember… Ox hates bullying.
Actually, Tiff has a point. She needs lots of money. Dishwashing at the local dinner theater isn’t going to cut it. I have to respect her for being straightforward about what she needs. Skipping around the issue, like both Bernice and her councilor did by trying the “use your interests to decide your career” BS, doesn’t impress me. A carreer is about money. I also have to respect her for asking for a raise. Even if she didn’t get it, she did open the door to talking about money & work with the boss, which will make it easier when Luann eventually asks for a well deserved raise
