looks like everybody placed their “Bets” (!) to see how long it will take Gunther to chicken out. nobody is counting on Gunthy to score. But I hope he surprises us all.Oohoora is still with him, so that’s a start!
Gunther? Brother YOU are MORE than “Okay!” Good Lord, but Bets is looking “Perky” in panel one! And she’s smart, compassionate, forgiving and understanding. And she shares Gunther’s interests and she seems to be quite interested in him. How Lucky can one Guy be?
If this IS just a dream, I hope Gunny doesn’t wake up and time SOON……,
I like Bets’ attitude: playful with a hint of possible romance. And, she only looks at her date, not everyone else in the room, or her cell phone. That is a respect that Gunther should learn. Now, as some others have already suggested, get out of this arc before Greg wields his drawing pencil of doom.
Well, the onlookers have reasons besides the lovebirds to be at The Fuse. Luann’s parents own the place. Les and Ox are on their shifts. But, yes, Gunther, do take Bets someplace else. Don’t give Les any ammunition to use against you. Luann is plainly nosy. You don’t want her into your business and to be respectful to Bets by removing yourselves from this situation.
Ha – I figured and mentioned that not all was lost. Bets was a good technician and did not let any one else’s diagnosis, I mean, take on Gunther permanently sway her from him. Like I said, it looks light it might just turn out alright. And I’m a pretty good technician…
How in the hell can Gunther not know why Bets wants to go elsewhere? I guess maybe Gunther has no job and very little money (from Mom) – typically fixes nearly all his own meals – and doesn’t even know any other place to invite Bets. Maybe Uncle Al gives Gunther a little credit at The Fuse. Does Gunther have a car to take Bets elsewhere? Bets must be an incredibly generous person that is taking on the huge task of trying to tug Gunther into adulthood. Alternately maybe Bets has had a tough life – wants to be a kid again for a little while – and she has found Gunther as another kid to play with at the Comic event.
Funny thing I thought of Tara – she’s the flakey one that gets in trouble. However if Tara were there – I think she would have had enough sense to prompt Luann away from Bets & Gunther. How can Luann not be embarrassed standing there?
I love suit guy also watching. Please Luanniverse Jesus don’t let suit guy be trailing Gunther. Gunther needs no more excitement. We gotta remember he is a sedate and gendtle fellow!
That Gunther hasn’t figured out that they never should have gone to the Fuse – and still hasn’t left – is not a good sign, though. One can hope that this was just a “cheap shot” by G&K as they intend to break away Monday.
In many ways, this feels like a Sundayfiller strip.
Monday we jump to Tiffany – who has probably already run up 5 grand on her new credit card. Likely she bought a complete new wardrobe – for her business that doesn’t even exist yet.
Just in case the current arc continues Monday, I think it would likely jump to Trekconnek. Gunther & Bets appear to have enjoyed the event together. Near the end of the day, I visualize Bets telling Gunther she has to get home to Brandon. Gunther stops dead in his tracks. Then Bets explains that Brandon is her three year old son. She might anticipate that Gunther would be good to her kid. That could explain her extraordinary kindness at The Fuse. Gunther might do well to move forward with that relationship.
So who’s the guy in the suit? He’s clearly there for a reason and not just some random Fuse patron. Maybe Bets’ father or brother who agreed to come along and make sure she’s safe?
Bets will have a much better time than Gunther at Geek connect. She will get lots of attention from other men, while Gunther will get pushed aside by other men trying to get to his date.
Gunther was an idiot to meet her at the Fuse in the first place. He HAD to know Les would be there—of course he knows what shifts he works. Running into Luann (parents own the place) was always a possibility, as well. And going in costume? They will get looks wherever they go.
Bets is coming on pretty serious and levelheaded. More so than a Trekkie cosplay person would be expected to be. A Tara-like personality would be more expected.
That being said! She seems to be behaving more like a female Gunther in re personal relationships. This might be a soul mate; at least for awhile. (Remember both Gunther and Luann got tres serious with “soulmates.”)
I think Suit Guy is just another onlooker. He is probably wondering if these two are actors for tonight’s show at The Fuse or just Trekkies having lunch before heading out to the Comic-Con. I’ve been to the San Diego Comic-Con and it was huge. Funny enough, when Nancy and Frank first bought the place, they visualized nightly performances and that never came to light. Wonder what happened. The Fuse is now just a restaurant with plenty of floor space for seatings and the restaurant has its own name, Kafe Kablooie, separate from the building itself because The Fuse was initially intended to be a theater. They might consider moving from live performances to showing musical movies and sell tickets. A lot easier than putting together a show.
The silver lining is that Bets got a crash course in Gunther and it hasn’t deterred her. I’ll give him a break on his 2nd panel comment; he is used to the Fuse and cast of characters who at least are not near the table, and he has worked up an appetite.
In the long run (maybe not so long, in fact), Bets is probably too smart and too practical for wishy-washy Gunther. But, gee, for now it seems like a good match….
Considering he got that judgy attitude he gets whenever someone so much as speaks to Les, Gunther is lucky that ended as well as it did. I would NOT have been so understanding if a stranger criticized me within five minutes of meeting me.
I think Luann is a little too enthusiastic about Gunther and Bets. I know how it is. After a long dry spell I started dating a girl and all my friends were so curious about her. It kinda of got on her nerves. O didn’t get mad, just asked for a little space. Good thing. She ripped my heart out.
