I concur, peeps. Algebra DOES save lives. But you know what’s more important? Punctuation. Seriously:

I would suppose that it is physics that would save lives, the equations that Wiz would apply are the result of formulating a theory and checking it, which is called the scientific method.

Without some very complex calculations, because the Earth is moving at a varying speed in its elliptical orbit around the sun with additional gravitational influence from our moon, they would not have known the meteor was heading right for Earth.

Algebra! I like algebra!! It’s Trigonometry and Calculus I hate!!

The math is way beyond algebra. You have, at least, a 3body problem.

When I attended our last high school reunion in 2010 (50th) while shaking hands, and hugging a bunch of classmates, ran into a couple of the “brains” that they were noted for in school. Asked them how algebra, calculus, etc. etc. had helped them through the years. Never heard laughter that loud in a long, long time ! Then again, those that did take those classes? Hopefully they were successful in whatever job (s) they had.

I’d recommend orbital mechanics and calculus over algebra for this problem. “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist … Oh, wait, it does.”

Zap it to the other side of the Earth’s orbit.

I think geometry is gonna play a role too.
