Yeah, 40 is a bummer until you look back at it from 50. Those were the good old days when your 60. Just concentrate on being here, now. You will feel better.
40? That was 11 years ago for me… I know, this is an old re-run strip, and he has his stereotypical mid-life crisis: two-seat sports car, here comes John!
I retired 6 years ago and it seems like yesterday. I don’t remember how I managed to get anything done working 60 hours a week. The best thing is not having to get up at 5:30 and get to work in the dark. I can literally slow down and smell the roses and am not in a hurry to hang up on my friends when they call. The worst thing is that I still don’t like to clean house.
When my husband turned 30, he became incredibly depressed. (I blame his mother, who actually got herself number “29” candles to put on her cake every year…we won’t discuss the year when my husband switched the numbers around.) I called everyone we knew and told them to just forget that he had a birthday that year…but if you felt so compelled to acknowledge it…be tactful. Most people respected that, but one person got him a button that said, “Tease me about my age and I’ll hit you with my cane.” At the time, he had a minor back injury and needed a cane. He crushed that button with one hand…crumpled it like a piece of paper. However, when he turned 40, he was never happier! We spent the day with friends at a local amusement park and had a wonderful day.
69, sharp and active. Aging is not a choice, but getting old is a choice. And remember that aging is a privilege denied to many. If you are not getting older, that means you are dead. I prefer to avoid that for as long as I can!
Forty isn’t bad except for one thing. Once you hit forty, they start counting in dog years. At least that’s how it feels. Since I hit forty, I feel like two or three years have past, but somehow my driver’s license says I’m 59.
When I turned 40, it was no biggie. I rather liked being 40; I was doing some good work, my kids were becoming independent and my wrinkles weren’t getting me down. I think men “crest” earlier when it comes to aging. This surprised me.
I am 65.Would love to time travel back to 40.When life was good, everything still worked well.By 45,everything unraveled.Good for all who are still going strong into their 70’s,and beyond ;)
“The key is never, never work. Nothing is more aging than work. It’s not only the strain of getting up in the morning for work, but it’s the resentment that settles on your face”― Quentin Crisp
Turning 40 didn’t bother me and neither did 50 – guess I haven’t figured out how to care about my age. Still I have to laugh as I know a number of people who are in their 70’s and more, they still call me young. Not sure when I get to claim the title of “old”, I would have thought I should get some sort of claim on it after I turned 50 but I guess not.
Now Medicare is making our doctors ask us to draw clocks and count backwards from 100 by substracting 7 at a time and I had to spell ‘world’ backwards. I thought I was back at school!

In other words, you don’t feel 40, John. That’s great because you will stay young longer.

And I’m too young to be 60. But the calendar begs to differ. I was born in 1959 and it’s 2019. Like it or not, that does add up to 60. Darn it.

Age is a number John, that’s all. It’s the quality of your life that counts not the quantity.

Turning 40 was no big deal for me, but 50 seemed to be a catalyst birthday, – the onset of male menopause, I guess.
Now that I’m approaching – without any trepidation or remorse – the tender age of 75, I wonder what all the fuss and drama was about.

I was OK with 40. But 30 killed me! At 30 I felt I was officially not young anymore. Now it seems like I was still a baby.

Turned 83 last January. Time seems to go by faster, forgettery has improved immensely, but fingers have forever memory when picking up a banjo!
