Slower times and written letters leave some time for contemplation prior to execution. However, they still made fools of themselves some times. Simple mistakes too. We haven’t evolved. We’re simply faster fools.
At least back in Uncle Reggie’s day the cars had style. Man the cars of the 50s and early0mid 60’s had a beautiful lines. Now they all look the freaking same. At least they drive and handle better.
Evolution runs on a long time scale. Or did until CRISPR… If all your ancestors for dozens of generations had to cope w/ video games in order to breed, you would very likely have fast thumbs. Etc. Even now, we are starting to see a trend toward bathing, though it is early days.
From Wikipedia on the (probably) last widow of a Union Civil War Veteran:
When Gertrude Janeway died in 2003, she was still getting a monthly check for $70 from the Veterans Administration—for a military pension earned by her late husband, John, on the Union side of the American Civil War that ended in 1865. The pair had married in 1927, when he was 81 and she was 18. The amount may have been modest but the entitlement spanned three centuries, illustrating just how long pension commitments can last.
Maudie Hopkins, the last known Confederate widow, lived to 2008. She married an 86 year old man in 1934 when she was 19, and she did not receive a pension as his widow.

Like they say, those were the good-old-days that never were.
Or as the Russians say: Ah, the good old days when we were so miserable.

Every generation repeats the mistakes of the previous generation. It is a repetitive world in which we live.

But, Danae, you’re human (presumable), so you’re statement would mean that you are “greatly overrated”.

It’s obvious that our intellectual evolution has lagged far behind our physical and technical evolution.

Human opinion overrates human evolution. We think we are better off and have achieved far more than we actually have.

My Grandmother lived in three centuries. Born in 1899 and died in the early 2000s. Imagine the changes she saw in her lifetime.

Considering what’s going on in this country right now, I think they’ve got evolution backwards and the amoebas are much smarter.
