Impeachment, which is like unto indictment by a grand jury, only requires a simple majority vote in the House. That could pass easily, no Republican votes needed.
But conviction and removal of the President? That part happens in the Senate and requires a 2/3 super majority vote. In other words, 19 or 20 Republican Senators would have to vote for conviction, which is not in the cards, and Trump wins.
Why impeach? Because he is manifestly criminal. It is the righteous thing to do. But in practical terms? Won’t get us quit of him. Only two US Presidents have been impeached, but neither was convicted/removed. And a failure to convict would strengthen the Trumpian hand. They could say, honestly, that he hadn’t been found guilty.
Better choice might be to concentrate on defeating him in the 2020 election, then indict him for his crimes, try him in court, and put him in a suit the same color as his face.
I think impeachment only makes practical sense if we see a change of heart by a large number of Republicans who decide to defend the nation and the Constitution, to uphold the rule of law. But I think they’d choose power over those ideals most any day.
While I think this is a brilliant and hilarious strip, I have to agree with “Captain Pelosi” on this one. Impeachment without conviction is essentially meaningless. The only way to remove T-Rump from office is to beat him in 2020.
Impeachment PROCEEDINGS are essential. Congress, at least the Democrats, must exercise its Constitutional oversight and investigative powers.
.
The results of investigations will then determine whether impeachment is indicated.
.
Trump and his Republican Disciples are not worried about impeachment in the least.
Trump and his Republican Disciples are extremely worried about investigations and oversight. That’s why they are suppressing all aspects of every investigation.
When Clinton was impeached (“censure plus” was what it amounted to), what he was accused of was very very mild compared to what we KNOW Trump has done. (I hope this doesn’t give Bronze Ragweed the conniptions……) Just hold some damn hearings—in public—and watch one Trumpy after another commit perjury or plead (while begging) the Fifth! I know Trump’s base is mostly highschool dropouts, but possibly some of them would watch, and ALMOST UNDERSTAND the hearings. Which would leave Li’l Donnie weaker, not stronger. But of course, this might all be a moot point, as Li’l Donnie’s serious (and increasing) mental health issues might eventually lead to the blessed 25th Amendment……
Watch this piece of you know what win again next year, because his dumbass supporters believe he can do no wrong. No matter his outrageous immature behavior. smdh
I wish that the republicans in DC would put our America as number one instead of making trump no 1. If they put the constitution over trump worship, and put our nation over trump. They need to wake up to trump’s lies, and put our Nation and our Constitution First!

Democrats being adult, don’t want to sink to the same childish crap that Republicans do. Trouble is, the bullies always win.

I’ve been saying this for decades, but it is never more true than it is now. The Democrats are gutless and the Republicans are insane.

Impeachment is the Constitutional thing to do if they do not then they are tacitly supporting him and damaging our country more.

From too much restraint comes loss of all power.
