Like when playing horse shoes, you all stood at the throwing end of the game. (until the second case of beer was gone)

They seemed like fun at first but people eventually got the point about them being dangerous!

They were fun and then idiots started throwing them at each other and now there is but one more “safe” toy. Thank God I grew up when I did, unprotected but a lot better off than the coddled kids of today.

every old man in history gripes about those young folks who don’t do or aren’t treated the same as they were when they were young.

I’m reminded of the Broadway musical “Bye Bye Birdie”….one of the songs from it (referring to young folk)

_"why can’t they be like WE were, perfect in every way?

what’s the matter with these kids today?"……_

the problems came to a head (non intended but not a bad pun) when small children wandered into the playing area,

putting themselves in obvious great danger of getting struck in the head by a a pound of plastic and metal with a pointed end

    with gravity-enhanced velocity

Those were fun. Of course my older brothers made sure I was safely at the throwing end before each person took a turn.

Two things that bring people into an emergency room more than lawn darts, or even fireworks— motorcycles ( big time) and bunk beds- which most people would never even think of. I believe manufacturers have responded to that by making the upper bunk into a virtual cage— wonder how that works out when there is a fire?

Trampolines are right up there as well. It is amazing the number of children under the age of two years that come in with injuries, usually caused by being on the thing with an older child or in one case, an adult.

Eliminate all the fun dangerous stuff & kids will find a new way to thin the herd. Try the latest internet challenge.

there’s a website called peopleareawsome.com where they encourage folks to make videos of humans doing

dangerous stunts and getting away with them……you can go there and see all kinds of death defying stunts

making you agree that ‘people ARE awesome’…. but what they don’t show is how many epic failures have

been had in getting that one good video?….Young people think they are invincible anyway, but to encourage

brainless behavior is rather reckless, I think

Here’s the rest….. We all ate around the dinner table and talked to each other as a family. When possibleWe asked each other how their day was and talked about what we learned in school. We said the Pledge of Allegiance and listened to our teachers, and respected them. We watched what we said around our elders because we knew If we DISRESPECTED any grown up we would get our behinds busted, it wasn’t called abuse, IT WAS CALLED DISCIPLINE! We held doors, carried groceries and gave up our seat without being asked, to someone who needed it.You didn’t hear curse words on the radio, in songs, from your friends, or on TV. “Please” and “Thank you” were part of our daily vocabulary! And Bless you if you remembered.Re-post if you’re thankful for your childhood and will never forget where you came from! Wouldn’t it be nice if it were possible to get back to this way of life?Copy and paste… change to the Town where you lived. Lots of good time and Memories. The good ol’ days.Learn to RESPECT not EXPECT! ❤️

Yes, all of that was true back then. And, you knew who you were then. Girls were girls and men were men, and black people knew that they were inferior and didn’t expect to be treated with respect or even common decency. And, gays, of course were no problem because everyone knew that they were a myth. Would I want to go back to the way it was in 1950/60? There is a lot to miss, but over all, I think we are moving toward a better society. If I really want a family dinner, I imagine I can shame my kids into going along with it. No guarantees, however that they won’t be playing games on a phone hidden in their lap.

Jarts, as the ones we had were called, were so much fun. My husband and I played against my parents when we got together on Friday evenings. That was usually followed by some games of 42. We have 5 children which were small back then and you know what?! No one EVER got hurt. It’s called common sense and it’s a rarity these days. Such wonderful memories to have.

I went to military school. We’d send one person off the diving board, then tread water while the next person tried to see how close he could come to hitting the first person without actually hitting them.

And we’d crawl the length of the pool on the rafter, then drop in from 15 or 20’ above the water.
