oh, what a relief… for a moment, I thought Luann’s parents got all worrisome for nothing

This is “Peace of mind” for parents.

Again, this are the SAME DeGroot Parental Units that once let their High School aged daughter go out with Elwood Druit, without so much as a by your leave…….,

Frank is so nervous in the last panel, it looks his mouth is about to fall off his head.

Frank & Nancy kinda acting up a bit? Luann is not worried a single bit.

Parents have been around longer and have unfortunately seen and experienced a lot more harm than children may be aware of.

I’ve often lost sleep because I’d start thinking I didn’t set the alarm. ✨

Wow, so they’re really drawing this thing out for the entire week, huh? This is more filler than a $0.50 pack of hot dogs. It feels (to quote the famous Bilbo Baggins) “thin, sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread.”

I’m pretty sure G&K have spent as much strip time on this one conversation as they did with Luann’s entire NYC trip.

The never-ending joys of parenthood!

Parents never rest. The only thing a child can do is get used at the idea that they will always be worried.

Tomorrow we may see some fitful dreams. We saw a dream sequence from Luann Sunday.

Then again, by the end of the week we may see the DeGroots give up in the middle of a sleepless night, dress, and go hunting.

one more reason I’ll never have a cell phone.

I sleep very well with my Phone in DND (Do not Disturbe) mode.

“But at least we’re in touch”? Didn’t Luann text her that her battery was low? If it’s low now, it’ll be dead by morning. How are they going to be in touch then?

My wife and I always try to remember to keep our cell phones charged, although I turn mine off at night when I sleep, only at home though because my grown kids know our land line (nothing gets the heart moving more than to get a landline phone call at 4 am). You never stop being a parent. Keep in mind that your kid can be on top of the world, but if everything falls down, chances are he or she will regroup with mom and or dad—hopefully for a limited time.

I’m glad this one is almost over but I do worry for Bernice

Let it go

Way back in the late 1960s (see how old I am), I was a volunteer archaeologist during my summer break, working with the Carnegie Museum of Pgh on their dig in Ashdod, Israel. The year before, Israel had come under attack during what was called the 6-day war; otherwise, we would have been there that year. Long story short, postal workers in Israel went on strike while we were there, and the postcards and postal grams I was sending to my family weren’t being delivered. After a week of hearing nothing from me, my mother contacted the US Embassy to ask them to check on our dig site to make sure I was okay. So it doesn’t surprise me at all to see the DeGroots worrying about whether Luann is okay…

Ugh. Get a life, folks. She’s 20! When I was 15 I was hitch hiking around England, sleeping at youth hostels and making friends. I had an adventure, and came back with newfound self confidence to do new things. Luann’s not a teenager any more, & is attempting to individuate which is age appropriate. Mom, Dad, get a life, & let go!

What I envisioned was Dez watching her phone, & as soon as there were no bars showing she would have said here’s the campsite.

OK, what about Brad, and Gunther and Tiffany and everybody?

This arc is kind of irritating. If Luann wasn’t okay, she would have said so. Go to sleep you two

That squirrel (Bob?) is traumatized.

And what happened to that poor squirrel?

Good lord…..everytime I went camping with my buds my parents helped me pack….

I’d be happy to return to the campsite for a few more episodes ( i suspect most here don’t want that) but I have a feeling this trio will return tomorrow. Frank and Nancy will be filled in then.

tomorrow the phone rings in the middle of the night but it’s a robo call.

My parents did worry, but not to the point of being ridiculous. When I mentioned skydiving in my teens, my dad said “You’re not built right for skydiving – you are too slender and long-legged.” (I don’t know that that was true – he just didn’t want me to go skydriving!) My mother had a good way of eliminating some worrying. When I was in my early 20s, I told her about one of my friends who had gone actually gone skydiving. Mom said, “Promise me that if you decide to try it, you won’t tell me until AFTER you’ve done it!” (I never DID go – my friend was a far braver gal than I am!)

Ah, just one of the never-ending joys of parenthood. And it doesn’t matter how old your kids are. You still worry about them. I’ve kind of enjoyed this arc. The girls had an adventure, Bernice will get a brand-new haircut when they get back to civilization, Dez got to run naked in the woods (though not for long), and Lu…and Lu…let me see…what did Luann do? Oh yeah, Luann took a selfie for Jack.

Chill, Nancy. Luann will survive, or she won’t. It’s out of your hands (and I don’t expect Greg to lose his eponymous character!)….

Ah, “Luann.” Every day its elderly fans show up to express their true selves. Yes, elderly fans. “Luann” hasn’t got any young fans. Especially since Luann and her peers have graduated from high school yet they continue to live prepubescent lives. Luann’s parents are behaving like their daughter is in junior high—she went camping near a road and might get wet, oh no. I’ve been through much worse as a teenager and I never needed anyone’s help. Frank is as ugly as Gunther or Brad without his glasses by the way.
