I can’t tell if that’s a bathtime baby fox or bear, but she looks significantly happier than her brother did when he was the bathtime baby bear. Also, her fingers appear to continue to be delicious (and her tiny feets are adorbs!).♥ EYES ON THE BABY!☻
The Baby’s serene little smile in panel 3 is adorable. I wonder if Elvis actually supervised the Baby during bathtime – this all seems very real, especially his paws on the edge of the whale tub! He’s so loyal. What a Good Boy.
Whew! That was close! Good job, Elvis. The baby was not thrown out with the bathwater. Who knew humans had that weak spot! They need to be watched whenever bathing their little ones!
Question – Would Elvis fling himself into the water filled whale-tub if the Maniac Woman appeared to be tossing the Baby out along with the bathwater? Answer – Do cats hork?
I always wondered where that old saying came from until I ran across an article about the history of hygiene. Apparently in the years before indoor plumbing was widely available in Europe and North America and for those without servants, it was the custom to fill a bathtub once and then the whole family, starting with the adult males, used the same water in turn. Baby would be last when the water would obviously be murky (or worse) so that it would be possible to fail to see the baby in the bath water and “throw the baby out with the bath water”. Wish I could remember the actual source because this still seems an unlikely occurrence.
In panel four, the Baby appears to be a little bit leery of the ‘oap but the Toddler’s calm in the face of this unknown substance appears to persuade her.
now this explains my Lexus (12 yr old cat) has taught our new member Ally, the need for standing guard to make sure the evil rainbox sets me free. PS, now that the cast is off I really can have a full bath this week!
My childhood cat Dido – who was fiercely protective of me and of whom Elvis reminds me – was always so DISTRESSED when my parents gave me a bath. I remember her pacing back and forth along the edge of the tub and plaintively meowing, utterly convinced my clearly negligent mother was going to let me drown. (She stopped walking along the edge after falling in once, and from then on telegraphed her disdain from a safe distance.)
Walking through my neighborhood, so many little kids all wet and sitting outside their houses. Yes, another baby/bath-water catastrophe. Can’t we stop this scourge? Can’t safety labels be put on kids baths? When will this madness end?
Sunday Funday!!!! Ok, the Mega-Orb gives so much, I’d like to give back to the Orb, but of course, I can’t do it alone. Since soon we will no longer need a spoiler zone, I think if we had a designated spot each week for folks to share something fun, great news, a funny story, a joke, anything. This is not to prescribe that this is the only place or time to do it, if you have great news or something to share at anytime, by all means DO so!
Research has shown that if you regulary journal about what makes you happy, or what you’re grateful for, these things tend to increase in your life. Part of that is that when you look for it, you see it, it registers more deeply, and if you share it, it enlivens us all!!! I look forward to our Mega-Orb community everyday, but I would love to have a place I could go to look for a bunch of uplifting, funny, happy news.
Folks seemed to like the idea so lets keep trying!! Just like the spoiler zone, whoever thinks of it first on a Sunday should start it, even if you don’t have something to share!!!

The Toddler looks so happy to be helping! Also glad to see the Baby is enjoying her bath, unlike the boys and the Toddler!

I love the Toddler’s interpretation of his Mom’s words. And Elvis: These maniacs and their reckless baths—! Snerk!

Well, Elvis. If you want to avoid the necessity for this madness in the future, then teach Baby to wash herself properly, the feline way.

Burt’s going to be mad if Elvis dropped that mic in order to more closely supervise. But Elvis’s paws do look adorable perched on the whale-tub.

Hmm… mic on the floor, next to a baby in a bath tub. Better tell Burt they need a new one now, that one is history.

The Moody Blues sing about The Story In Your Eyes, Elvis sings about the dangers of the bath
I’ve been think ’bout the bath time
And I’ve decided that it really isn’t safe,
For the danger of Smiling Whale Washtub
Is still the same.
…….
There is the soap and the washcloth
That the Toddler carefully hands to his mom
And Elvis is standing guard so the Baby
Won’t come to harm.
…….
Listen to the laughter of the Baby
Wash all the cares away
Her brave Siamese watches carefully
To make sure she is safe for another day!
…….
She sits happily in her bath towel
With another bath time safely at an end,
Elvis reprimands the careless Humans
With Puck his friend!
