LOL! I’m wearing my favorite orange raincoat today too. I think raingear should be bright and cheery – never liked boring black umbrellas or tan raincoats.
Here in KS, it is called “hunter orange.” Once my mom found some fleece in hunter orange at a fabric warehouse, and made a couple hoodies for my sons. They were great! I loved them for when the boys played outside (we own 5 acres) because I could always spot them quickly.
They outgrew them, and I found hunter orange hoodies for the 3 of us at Sam’s, right before we went to NJ & NYC to visit my sister. I figured we wouldn’t lose them in a crowd with those hoodies, and I was right.
However, we did get some strange looks, and then I realized that the prison road crews in NJ wear the same color. Around here, the road crews tend to wear the neon green instead.
It may be called “Hunter Orange” in many places in the US, but the original color was called “Signal Orange” and was the color of marker panels in WW2. They were used by the ground troops to let the fly-boys know where they were supposed to go, and who not to strafe or bomb. Sometimes it even did its job correctly!
Here in AZ they dress convicts in pink (because the clothes will never get stolen -among other things). Mostly our sheriff wants them to have no wish to come back!
I think that’s also the sheriff who houses many prisoners in tents–including in the (Arizona) summer, and who feeds them bologna sandwiches and other such yummy (cheap) food. After all, he figures, it’s prison. They are not supposed to have all sort of perks and a comfy, pleasant life.

I’ve seen people out shopping with jackets you could see a mile away!
(It would be better if the strip was in color.)

I’m glad it’s not in color. It would be to much to see for a Monday.
