I considered renting an RV for our ten-day trip to Florida, but my wife said, “We’re on vacation! I’m not spending my days cooking and making beds like usual!” She was right (like usual).

Kid is wise to see the distinction.

Years ago I went on a camping trip with a bunch of friends out in the desert in southern Ca. After we had set up our tents a bus-sized motor home pulled in near us and we never saw them come out the two days we were there. A friend and I were talking about that and I said “They might as well have stayed home, I’m surprised they don’t come out to check their mail!” (This was long before cell phones and email.)

I enjoy BEING other places, I just don’t enjoy GETTING there. Osama bin Laden would’ve been so proud about the way his trivial $1 million investment helped turn American air travel into the same kind of intrusive, uncomfortable hellhole he envisioned for us — AND he got the US government to pay for it!

Ah yes – a giant RV – so you can park in a gravel lot, with other giant RVs 3 feet away on either side. But at least they suck down fuel faster than a 747, eh?

If you are going to waste money on an RV then why not a staycation? Save a ton of $$$ and not get the stress

Back in my college days, we organized a coed deer hunt one weekend. That was an experience.

My mother always pointed out that for her a family vacation entailed doing exactly what she always did, but with fewer conveniences, using more primitive techniques that took longer and required more squatting. There was also a period of time prior to the vacation during which she did both her usual job and organized the outing; and a period of time afterward in which she did her usual job and ran extra laundry, did extra cleaning of various and sundry items and then put them away. (Then she’d get all misty eyed about when school was going to start…)

Feel free to renew your accusations of bias for this week. Just don’t mistake my thinking out loud, or in print, for preaching. Or do. It’s your comic strip once I put it out there, my gift to you to do with what you like. I just hope you enjoy the ride and like where it takes you. I’ll provide the road; you choose your vehicle.

Nice observational comic today with no ranting, railing, or ridicule.

I’ve done Tent camping and Pickup Camper camping. I prefer the hard side, you stay warmer and drier that way. I’ve spent one too many nights trying to keep the tent in place in a driving near monsoon to do it at my age. Plus you don’t have to troop though the dark to use the toilet.

No, an RV is not like home
