When I was growing up, I would look forward to spending a week or two at my grandparents every summer. There was no time for boredom. Weather permitting, there were daily trips to the creek that ran through the nearby “town”. There we would spend time swimming in the local swimming hole. Since there were two ponds on the property, fishing was possible on each nice day. Bird hunting with a bb gun was encouraged to help keep the garden from being savaged by local blue jays and other garden raiders. There was corn to shuck, beans to be shelled, and other harvesting related chores. The last might seem like work to others, but was treasured by me because I could listen to stories about my family from my grandmother and aunt. Going to the farm was boring? Not for me.
It’s been a long time since my pilot’s license was current, a long time since I clipped into a hang glider, and some time since I raced a bicycle at any kind of level.
But once in a while I can still make something fly.

Unless, of course, you happen to be Luann or Hilary Forth and are doomed to live forever in tedious youth.
