The civil-service bureaucracy (mockingly called the “deep state” by the alt right) is probably the only part of the federal government still delivering solutions in DC these days.
Reagan started attacking the civil service, using the Civil Service Reform Act to stuff political appointments into permanent jobs in Civil Service. Republicans since have continued the practice, and Bonespurs has used that, and illegal means to further destroy every agency with his appointees.
“Mocking laughter” is a characteristic of Westminster democracies (UK, Canada, New Zealand, yada). It is a symptom of one-sided Power, where the Opposition has no tool but ridicule to sway the Government from its chosen course, however deluded it might be. The (relative) decorum of USA governance, heretofore, has marked the real power held by the Opposition, and the need for compromise to get things done. The decay of this decorum is, thus, a symptom of the loss of checks/balances on Power, formerly the defining hallmark of republican government in these Untied States, and should be a matter of real concern. Like several other things. As if we care. All we seem to care about, these days, is booing Andrew Luck off the field for declining to die to entertain the mob.
There is speculation that artificial intelligence will take over the world. It may happen since biological intelligence doesn’t seem to be doing such a good job.
I find it difficult to believe that a system based on binary could be successful. After all, that is where we are now. You either love Trump or you Hate America. If you are not conservative, you are a socialist (as if that is a bad thing). You are either 100% with us or 100% against us. There is no middle ground, there is no space for compromise let alone a win-win scenario. It’s all zero OR one, True or False, black or white.
When one party has NO solutions, and won’t even interact with the other party that MIGHT have solutions (spoiler alert: the party with no solutions worships a demented traitor, and will continue to do so until the stock market sinks below the holes in their heads), the mocking laughter comes from those of us who laugh because we must not cry……..
When a President of the United States publicly announces that he will pardon any contractors or government agents who break the laws of the country, in order to promote his personal agendas, the United States not only has lost its moral compass but its collective minds for allowing justice and democracy to be so mocked and destroyed.
I will shout: THIS MAN NEEDS TO BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE – IMMEDIATELY !!
Mick Mulvaney’s office, they are very competent at getting rid of anybody competent and the stories of how they’re are getting rid of scientists looking into climate change or economists helping farmers plan for the next growing season, are very funny at Republican fundraisers.
“Excuse me, I looking for the Department of A Good Argument.” “No your not!” "I most certainly am. . "We could use more Monty Python and less certain other people in our government. It would be more effective and harm fewer people.
The British have solved this problem, they have a PM who is going to give them exactly what they asked for, but perhaps not in the way they imagined. . . “Why do you want me to bend over?”

Honesty is the best policy. The trouble is that the policy is stuck in committee and there is a filibuster going on. Better luck next year.
