From yesterday’s comments – LROS commented on one of Bbear’s posts that once on a home renovator show on TV they said you should never open up a wall unless you have to because there are too many surprises. Well, back in 1990, we redid the kitchen in this house. The kitchen got so cold the water froze every winter, so we ripped out the wall behind the sink & lower cupboards to put insulation in the walls. We found a surprise alright. What we found was that there was insulation in the wall in the form of newspapers dated 1886 (give or take a year or two). So we know the kitchen part of the house dates back that far. We have reason to believe (judging by the siding outside that doesn’t match up evenly with the main part of the house) that the kitchen was an add-on to the rest of the house, but of course, there are no pictures and no way to prove our theory. By the way, just for fun, we put some 1990 newspapers inside the wall (Sealed in plastic bags) along with the fiberglass insulation before we put up the Sheetrock. The papers we found were in pretty good condition considering their age. I would have expected them to be completely chewed up by mice in all those years. They were chewed up a bit, but not entirely. We saved the old papers in plastic Ziploc bags.
To Dean from yesterday – the groundhog didn’t predict 6 more weeks of summer, but I sure would like 6 more weeks (or 6 more months!) of summer. So far, it seems like we only had about one week of really hot summer weather and that was weeks ago. The temperatures in the 70’s are nice, but they’re just not “August” enough for me. I’d love these temperatures in October through December, but I’d like it just a bit warmer right now. It doesn’t have to be in the 90’s, but right around 80° is perfect, in my opinion.
To Tad from yesterday – Really, the only card game you know is “Go Fish”? What about “Old Maid”? I loved that game when I was a kid. And you don’t know Solitaire? There are lots of versions of Solitaire, but I’m thinking of the Klondike version that most people think of when you mention Solitaire. We played Animal Rummy and Slap Jack too when we were kids, but Old Maid was my favorite. Oh yeah, we’d play Concentration too – where you put all the cards face down and turn over pairs of cards to try to match them up.
National Eat a Peach Day. Well, I only got ONE peach on my peach tree this year (stupid polar vortex!) and I ate that a few days ago. It was delicious!
National Surgical Oncologist Day
National BAO Day (whatever that is)
Never Bean Better Day (that’s NOT a typo – it really says Never Bean Better Day, not Never Been Better Day)
Sometimes it’s better to not say anything at all than risk saying something stupid. (Something Chesney doesn’t seem to realize.) On another note, saw two deer on the way home from work.

Well this could be a good thing. At least you’ll get a break from Chesney’s big mouth

Well I speak for Woof and he says (and thinks) you’re both idiots.

I think Woof thinks both of you cats are dopes and twits, but he would never say that.

I once had a cat that looked like Woof. Unlike Woof, he was quite noisy, especially when I fed him.
