That was good when a meal cost a buck and the going rate was 10% tip or 15% if the service was particularly good.
I had a son who worked tables for a while. I know servers get stiffed a lot. As a result I tend to over tip and I have a minimum tip. Just because the food is cheap, it does not mean the service is cheap.
If the service is particularly bad, I call for the manager, hand him/her a 10% tip and explain that it is for the bus staff and kitchen (assuming that part of the meal was OK).
In the States, where the gratuity isn’t added to the bill, I usually tip 20% ( providing the service was good ). Here in Ecuador, where 10% gratuity is automatically added to the bill, it isn’t expected that you tip more, but I often will leave an additional 10% for the server or bartender.
I used to work in the food & beverage industry when I was young. I know how hard the job is, and how poorly the workers are paid for what they have to put up with.

Keep that up, and all you’ll get is two cents.

This was probably drawn before internet social media and rating sites existed.

15 cents? Hm-m-mm. Not a compliment.

Must be somewhere in France. I was intercepted on my way out of a Paris eatery and told my tip was inadequate.

What is that ancient artifact that the waiter is holding? Ohhhh…. it’s a camera!
At least waiter didn’t ask to have a selfie taken with his generous customer.
