We have an apple tree, and here in Southern California, the apples ripen in July. I forget what variety it is, but it’s from Bermuda, so as you can imagine, it doesn’t need a lot of winter chilling. It cranks out a lot of apples.
This year, my wife made six loaves of apple bread, and took all of them to our vets as thanks for all their work. I didn’t get a bite. I suppose it tasted OK, she’s been to the vet’s since then, and they didn’t lock the doors when they saw her coming.
Around here right now it’s Blackberries. There’s this blackberry stand in Mountain Home Village and we go there a few times a year and get blackberries and make them into various things. There is a recipe for a gluten-free pie-crust that is made with sour cream.
Time to have a Jack Rose and continue eating my Apfelstrudel. How do you like them apples?
The Jack Rose: Recipe and text by Rebecca Orchant
2 ounces Applejack
1 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce grenadine (Homemade, you guys. I insist. Combine equal parts unsweetened pomegranate juice and sugar in a mason jar. Shake the hell out of it, until the sugar dissolves. BOOM, you have grenadine.)
Shake well with cracked ice, then strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
I remember very early Georgia saying she thought of giving the boys their own television shows. I think she’s dropped the idea for now at least. However, my recollection is that Elvis, of course would be a conspiracy theorist, Lupin an adventure show and Puck a master chef!!!
“You can barbecue ‘em, boil ’em, broil ’em, bake ’em, saute ’em. There’s uh, apple-kabobs, apple creole, apple gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple apple, lemon apple, coconut apple, pepper apple, apple soup, apple stew, apple salad, apple and potatoes, apple burger, apple sandwich. That- that’s about it.”
OMG….how cute is Pucky in his chef outfit including the toque. I sure wish my 2 cars Sammy aka Sam axe and the princess Fiona aka snow paws, were that talented.
Does that “industrial cauldron” contain a metric bonker’s worth of apples?
(Then again, a cauldron brings up images of “Macbeth”… I picture Baba Mouse, Tabitha, and Beatrix [gotta have an apprentice, right?] reciting chants and casting spells as they stir in the ingredients.)
Oh, here we go again! Hit “comment”, and you get taken to the first page, again and have to go back to “show all comments”., and find you place… GComics has been really squirrely that way, lately. On Sunday, I just gave up after a while. I swear, it would jump around even if I didn’t hit a key or move the cursor! Does this happen to others?
I fooled everyone today. I ate before I read all the comments so I’m not bothered by so many suggestions for using apples. Ha!!! Of course if someone offered some to me, I wouldn’t say no.
The only one who could do “Mind of a Chef” or “Ugly Delicious” is Elvis—and Puck would be good with that. Hey David Chang, how about a spot with these two?

From the Andrews Sisters, an oldie but goodie
Don’t go picking the apple trees without consulting me,
Without consulting me, without consulting me,
No! No! No!
We’ve so much fruit, it’s just a hoot
Too many apples to see,
So we’ll make plenty of apple sauce!

Puck in an apron and chefs hat….. so cute! I think he has an outfit for every occasion, event, and activity.
Where does he keep them all and how does he keep them clean?
Regular grooming sessions?
Is it snuck into the people’s washing?
Is it sent out for dry cleaning?
