Musical taste is in the ears of the listener.

    That’s a complete ripoff!

I remember a strip from at least fifty years ago that had a caveman who made a musical instrument that had one string. Another caveman said “what can you play with one note?” and he said “rock and roll.”

    What strip was that, anyway?

I have exactly zero musical ability. Why does that “trumpet” make only 3 notes? Shouldn’t it be six? Three notes with only one of each of the keys depressed, and another three notes with two of each of the keys depressed?

And when someone tells him to go blow his own horn, he will.

Seems the “evolution” of music over my 7 decades has gone from spirited to bedlam. Within my megar collection (reduced by damage in a move) have a Styx single, “Show me the Way,” and one Air Supply album. The lyrics are intelligible, there’s both melody and harmony, and my head does not pound in sync with the beat.

So many endlessly repetitive lyrics, bleated in harsh grating caws, mixed thickly in loud chords, with ground shaking percussion, and producing so little actual musicality. Wonder what music will sound like in its next iteration.

So it starts. Pretty soon someone will start pushing different combination of valves and we will have Al Hirt and the Tijuana brass.

With 3 valves there are at least 5 more finger combinations for a total of 8 (one octave)

Who? FYI, when I was born nickles were 100% nickle, which is why we called them nickles. End of History lesson.

Actually, it should make more than that by pressing two or all three valves at a time.

Four, if you don’t press any. Then 5 if you press all three, 6, 7, 8 when you do combos of two, and there you have it! Do Ray Me Fa So La Te Do!

What if you press more than one valve at a time, or buzz your lips faster or slower? You might be able to play a song… oh wait, this is B.C. – there probably isn’t much in the way of music.

My 2 cents…. in the GOOD category, The Vogues, and The Moody Blues(just 2 out of many)… in beyond horrible, “Canned Heat,” especially with “Going up the Country!” Thank you, and good night.
