Calling a woman a “broad”, even in humor, is these days so non-PC that only Pastis could get away with it— and I’m not sure he really does. Not all that great a strip.

There is a street in Durham, NC close to the Duke University Campus called Broad Street, named after Molly Corbett Broad who is a respected former president of the American Council on Education and the University of North Carolina. I thought it was the place where male Duke students went looking to make acquaintances with women. Made me feel really bad when I found out the true source of the name. Problem is, the street should be in Chapel Hill, the home of the University of North Carolina rather than right next to the Duke campus in Durham.

C’mon Pastis, this joke’s so oldie, its moldy. It even predates ‘take my wife, please’.
