My wife and I are exceptionally blessed. We don’t need anything. Therefore we don’t buy much in the line of gifts for each other. I bought her a gift certificate to her favorite spa: I have to “outsource” some of my pampering of her. She is getting me a magazine subscription to a publication I like to read.
We took the money we would have spent on his and hers Lexi (the plural of Lexus) and bought diapers, feminine hygiene products and food for the pantry that our church runs. This isn’t just checkbook charity. These are people we normally have dinner with on Tuesday nights.
“ Data from conservation groups and the government show that the polar bear population is roughly five times what it was in the 1950s and three or four times what it was in the 1970s when polar bears became protected under international treaty”“ New estimates from the International Union for Conservation of Nature show a mid-point estimate of 26,500 (range: 22,000 to 31,000) in 2015. In The State of the Polar Report 2018, zoologist Susan J. Crockford says updates to IUCN data put the new global mid-point estimate at more than 30,000.
Even accepting the lower figure, the estimate is the highest since the polar bear became internationally protected in 1973.”

So many people get the spirit of Christmas all wrong. It’s a damn shame ‘cause it’s not that hard to be good to people all the time.

I’ll be in that line later today and probably tomorrow. With me it’s a tradition, meaning I always wait until the very last minute.

Consistent with the owner’s perspicacity, the return desk within the Shoppe is labeled the Counter Counter.

Cynicism, like optimism, is a good trait to have. However, it must be observed in moderation. If you’re too cynical, you miss out on a lot of fun.

“Gift, Bitter Female Manager, passed over for promotion, AGAIN!”
“Gift, obnoxious Mother-in-Law who will just Regift it to the One Cousin you actually Like.”
“Gift, Uncle who can’t keep his Hands Off”.
“Gift, Brother-in-Law who still hasn’t paid back the $500 he borrowed 3 years ago.”
