When I pick my son up from school there’s an older guy (usually drunk) who lives in the neighborhood and has come up to my car asking for money. After that first time, when I see him coming I pretend I’m talking on my phone and he’ll stand there looking into my car for a few seconds then he’ll leave when he realizes I’m not getting off the phone any time soon. This fake-phone-conversation has worked every time since.
