Why would she not agree to that? Individuals who can easily disappear having unsupervised contact with kids seem like they could accept a criminal background check.

It’s no big deal. When I went to work for the Navy as a civilian contractor, I had to have a background check (repeated every 5 years) because I would be working with classified material. Schools need to do background checks on people they hire because they’ll be working with children (no violent offenders or pedophiles need apply). She should accept the fact that, even though the school board knows her from her years of being a principal, they can’t in fairness make an exception just for her, lest others start claiming exceptions for less valid reasons.

If they do criminal background checks, how come so many teachers get convicted of crimes?

Mostly sexual crimes!
