I survived just fine without a cell phone until my late 50’s (about five or six years ago)… and the only reason I finally got one (a flip phone) is because you can’t find pay phones anymore when you travel. I still use the land line as my primary means of phone contact. The cell phone is turned off until I need to call someone with it (which also improves battery life a bit). Nobody needs to be constantly in touch like that, certainly not at the movies or in other public places like restaurants.
my folks went all out sometime around 1965 and bought a 26" big assed plastic colour TV that weighed about 200 pounds. It replaced a 26" wood cabinet B&W TV we had for a decade or more.

I lived for years without a TV. In the mountains there were no over the air stations. Also, many other great things to do with my spare time.

My grandkids were startled to learn I still make my ice cubes “from scratch”.
