Wow, I am completely lost here … ahhh … what happened to the grass/plant between panel 1 and 3? and how does Goldie’s lucky pen figure in all this? gah … my brain feels sooo tiny and sooo slow …
The mysterious life cycle of cat grass! Goldie is always curious and observant. She doesn’t sit around wondering about things. She investigates! And she looks so sharp in her outfit!
Buy some wheat or oat grains, soak them overnight and let them sprout, plant them in a shallow container with potting soil, and wait a few days. You will have cat grass at a much cheaper cost than what you would buy from a petshop.
How did your pen become lucky, Goldie. I, too, have a lucky pen. I got it as a graduation from HS present in 1969. It became lucky when it came time to write my first composition for Freshman Comp. at university. We had been told to expect our first compositions to receive low grades, so I was shocked when my first composition came back marked with an A-! I decided it must have been a lucky pen. I made sure to write all my compositions with that pen. I have also used it to sign all the important documents of my life. Fortunately even 50 years later, Papermate still makes refills.
I even used it to write a character sketch of Mr. Stripes, the brother of my dad’s best friend who gave it to me. The nickname was the result of an unfortunately fashion choice of his youth. He once appeared in a brand new pin striped zoot suit! The name stuck.
Ah, the miraculous cat grass. I know far too many people toss out the cat grass when it’s nibbled down or turns yellow-brown. Hey folks, it’s a plant. It’s a perennial. Water it lightly and it’ll come back. Now if I could just get people to believe they had to reseed or resod their lawns every year I’d start up a landscaping business. Five or six clients like that and I could retire very comfortably after maybe three or four years.
I sat down to eat my breakfast and finish reading the comments, and now Layla’s jumped in my lap. She does this so infrequently, I never move until I absolutely have to. Lap time is always at Layla’s discretion, not mine.
I had quite a few of those “fat” pens back in the day, both fountain and ballpoint. When I worked for a major office supply chain, they would have “table top shows” where sales reps from various vendors would come in to demonstrate their products and give us free samples (this was before someone decided that this was somehow a “conflict of interest”). We got some higher end stuff as well as “economy” style. Oddly, the cheap crappy looking pens were often the ones that were more comfortable to hold, at least for me, and they also had better ink and wrote more smoothly. Just goes to show, price is not always an indicator of quality.
It’s funny, but none of my cats will eat brown “cat grass” but when they’re outside (supervised visits) they’ll eat the brown lawn grass!
Since everyone is sharing about their winter: Here in Utah our winter has been rather mild, which has meant rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains for the most part. Our mountains have a lot of snow and the skiing is great!
Let’s see a show of hands. How many got the correct answer, (d)?
Anyone who has studied ancient Greek society to any extent should realize just how strange, in some ways alien, to modern humans they were. If you write SF, and want to create an alien culture, study the ancient Greeks. You’ll find a lot of strangeness to inspire you. And as everyone should know, a little strangeness, now and then, is a good thing.
Must be magical grass to revive like that. Lol. Looks like Goldie fitting right in with the crew, though I suspect Fluffasorous Rex will still harbor a grudge against her

We’ve had such a mild winter that the grass is still mostly green but at least it stopped growing.

I can never keep cat grass alive for more than a month to six weeks. Time to plant another pot today, in fact.

Welcome to Hippo Day. The name “hippopotamus” comes from ancient Greek: "hippus"—horse, and "potamus"—river. So it means “river horse.” I’ve never heard of anyone riding a hippo, so I conclude that either the ancient Greeks were (a) incredibly brave, (b) had a wicked sense of humor, © insane, (d) all of the above.
Let’s see a show of hands. How many got the correct answer, (d)?
