It is a good thing you aren’t Jewish, Aunty – your solution would never work in an Orthodox home with one sink for dairy dishes and one for meat dishes – unless wealthy enough to afford 2 kitchens! Hot water and soap work well, occasionally with a little elbow grease, if needed.
Waybackinthewayback when I had a dishwasher, I used to leave things in thru multiple cycles till they were clean. Drove my ex crazy – he was the type who’d scrub things clean before putting them in the dishwasher, which drove me crazy. I mean, what’s the point of having a dishwasher if not to wash dishes (a chore I absolutely despise)?

The baked-on food is still there, but the dish did dissolve.

If anyone gives you unsolicited advice, ask them to go soak their heads, Aunty! (Oops, I’m guilty of that too, ain’t I?) :D
