Well, it does look like there’s a Brenda Starr crossover coming up soon. She hasn’t been in the strip before or has she? If not, it was inevitable, I suppose.
Got to admit that I miss some of the old comic strips like Brenda Starr and Steve Roper & Mike Nomad. At least Joe Staton and Mike Curtis bring them back periodically.
Here it is folks, Mike’s gathering place for dead strip characters to come play in real ongoing story schemes, not cooped up in some old mansion ruminating about the “good old days”.
If we’re lucky, maybe when we get back to the story line, Shaky 2.0 will have already been caught, pronounced guilty and be led to his cell in an orange jumpsuit…
I hope the story is long enough to give Branda and Annie more than one scene each. The Steve Roper & Mike Nomad crossover was too short to give any character much to do.
I have read that Capt. Joseph Patterson, head of the Tribune Syndicate who gave Gould the green light to proceed with Dick Tracy, absolutely hated Brenda Starr. It was only after he died that the Tribune Syndicate picked up the Brenda Starr strip.
My own take on this is that Brenda Starr will probably fit in with Tracy better than some of the other crossovers Mike has attempted. In some ways, the strips have a similar “feel”- at least they seemed to when they were both running together in the Sunday paper when I was a kid first learning to enjoy comic strips. As a retired printer, I hope Joe does some research and gives us a few good, accurate press room scenes!
Who’s next, Little Nemo? Krazy Kat? I won a “Create a Villain” Contest in a Tracy magazine about 20 years ago. It had to go through all kind of approval from the Gould’s. I wonder if they continue to have some input on this drivel. I doubt it. BTW, another nice observation from Capt. Obvious Wick
Holy warehousing, Tracy fans! Crossover piled upon crossover piled upon crossover! Brenda Starr upon Annie upon Edison, and all piled up in and on Tracy! Depending on your tastes, this is either surreal and great, or an abomination from the Pit.
Annie and Honeymoon work well together, and it’s not really clear how much or even if Brenda Starr herself will show up for classes at the Young Journalists Academy—though today’s reference would seem to make her appearance likely….
My Dad always read Brenda Starr in the Detroit Free Press. I just never could get into it. But I’ll be looking forward to her here, for Dad. Thanks guys.

I’ve just started following Dick Tracy and the crossover with other strips surprises me. I suppose we have the MCU to thank for this.
