Puck, your madness needs to be shared with others or it goes nowhere. The rest of the world will turn up March 1 on Sunday, while you are waiting on Feb 30th.
It’s quite simple, actually. We add an extra day every four years so they don’t end up adding themselve to ground hog day, lest they go crazy and keep multiplying until someone learn some deep lesson. (Those extra groundhog days are very sneaky…)
Be careful about the contracts you sign, or you might end up like Frederick – indentured till his twenty-first birthday.“For some ridiculous reason, to which, however, I’ve no desire to be disloyal, Some person in authority, I don’t know who, very likely the Astronomer Royal, Has decided that, although for such a beastly month as February, twenty-eight days as a rule are plenty, One year in every four his days shall be reckoned as nine-and-twenty. Through some singular coincidence — I shouldn’t be surprised if were owing to the agency of an ill-natured fairy — You are the victim of this clumsy arrangement, having been born in leap-year, on the twenty-ninth of February. And so, by a simple arithmetical process, you’ll easily discover, That though you’ve lived twenty-one years, yet, if we go by birthdays, you’re only five and a little bit over ! "
We have a leap day baby in our extended family. He has passed but we all still post birthday messages to his Facebook page so his widow and family will know he is not forgotten. Officially this would have been his 14 birth-day.
We’re being bamboozled, folks. If February 29 is an extra day that isn’t usually there, why is today a working day? Where’s our extra pay for the extra day?
Logically, we should have 13 months. Twelve of them would have 28 days and one 29 days in a normal year. In a leap year, the extra day could be tacked on to a different month, but for most of the year we’d have nice even 4 week months.
Eight years ago my beloved was dropping off a friend when a big white cat came up to him, meowing urgently. He thought “This is someone’s cat” and despite not being a cat person at all, he brought the cat home. It took a week of searching for the cat’s owner to realize the someone the cat belonged to was him.
Albert A. Cat is a joy and a delight and loves his Man more than anything in the world. We’re thankful every day that the Universe chose to give him to us.
[Note: he was actually found on the night of Feb. 28, but I alway associate his homecoming with Leap Day]
Poor Elvis’s linear brain cannot fathom Pucky’s multidimensional, time is not linear universe. I suggest Elvis should hide under a blanket until it is safely March 1st.
Oh and a bonus, we may have glimpsed Pucky’s chart making table in panel 3.*
Zero here, too. I am searching for the photo I took last year, with a ten-foot high wall of snow to compare with the one I just took showing only dirt.
They should consider themselves lucky they didn’t live in the time of Pope Gregory XIII. One night everyone went to sleep. When they woke up the next morning, it was ELEVEN DAYS later! In 1582, October 5th thru 14th never existed.
I know it’s late in the day, but if possible, please offer up purrs and prayers to whatever higher power you identify with, for the swift recovery of those suffering from the coronavirus, for a halt to the spread of the virus, for a vaccine to prevent it, and for an effective cure to be developed for those who do become infected.
I like the extra days on the calendar. Decades ago I was auditing a company. Their accounting machine just kept adding days to December. Transactions were recorded as December 35th. They actually took place on January 4, but they went on the books in the previous year.

Don’t look at me, Elvis, I’m a Doctor Who fan. We mess around with weird time slippage, paradoxes, puzzles, and over-convoluted explanations for fun.

Take a leap of faith, it’s a brand-new day!
Add an extra date, it’s a brand-new day!
It’s a brand-new for the Orb Friends!
It’s a great feeling that never ends!
Grab your calendar, it’s a brand-new day!
…….
Hello Friends, goodbye to worries,
Take it easy today, what’s your hurry?
You’re gonna see that Puck’s got it right!
Let your joy take flight!
…….
It’s a brand-new day!
Just for hoping,
And for being with Friends,
It’s a brand-new day,
Adding new days,
Forever just never ends!
It’s a day for starting a journey,
Taking a path beyond home!
It’s a day, with all of you Orb Friends,
You don’t need to be alone!
…….
Hello Friends, goodbye to worries,
Take it easy today, what’s your hurry?
You’re gonna see that Puck’s got it right!
Let your joy take flight!
It’s a brand new day! Yeah!
It’s a brand new day! Yeah!
It’s a brand new day! Yeah!
In Psalm 30:5 it says “Weeping may endure for a night, but Joy comes in the morning.” Wishing all my Orb Friends the Joy of a new day.*Michael G. almost 5 years ago
