“It was a trap!” he says. What did he expect? If it was a trap, he’s the one who set it up!
As many speculated, Tracy is too concerned about his wife to give chase at the moment. Shaky ought to go to a hospital, but they’re sure to be on the lookout for him.
You would think that after shooting criminals for the past 60+ years that Dick Tracy could have zeroed in and nailed this freak before he drew his gun, much less winging him! Then again, there were three (3) persons with guns who missed Shaky.
One of the Tracy fans over on that social networking site has been posting large clean, single panels from Chester Gould’s heyday; many are what today would be considered extremely and unacceptably graphic….
Mark Thomas over at Alley Oop is posting original Hamlin links, why can’t the Tracy fan post links here ? There is some way of posting ‘Book’ links that a non ‘Booker’ like me can see them as I see plenty of them at Ten Cats.
Even though the Comics Code Authority went obsolete about 10 years ago I suppose there’s still an unwritten rule about not showing blood. Even though Joe may nor be allowed to show a bloody wound he should be able to show the guys quickly implementing emergency first aid: Tracy should immediately use his shirt as a tourniquet for a limb wound or wadded up to apply direct pressure if on Tess’ torso.
If this were the good old times, where we wouldn’t have to worry about offending some 3 year old who glanced at the strip, you’d have it 50 – 50 her living, and some actual suspense….
And, it was a trap, but a lousy one. They didn’t even have anyone covering the door to get Shaky if he tries to run away. Such inglorious incompetentness of Tracy and co.
Did you miss the yesterday strip? Panel one shows him being shot in the left arm. Panel three shows him saying I have been hit, as he is going down the outside stairs.
and again the strip abandons police procedures, no back up? not even Sam? considering their sunday run of crime stopper tips and role call of honor, it is getting insulting.
Well, the "Minute Mystery’ doesn’t start for another month,so we have room for a “scour the city manhunt”.Good luck to Shaky 2 disguising THAT face.Great middle panel,Dick trying his best not to “lose it”. Oh,and notify Edison that no matter how hard you try,you can’t hide the bloodstains in the car so that the lab boys won’t find it.(see MISS EGGHEAD,1958).
1-DT AS HIMSELF: Look! There was toilet paper stuck on her shoe and she dragged it on stage! Hey, what’s wrong with her anyway?
ROCK: She’s been shot ya dummy! DTAH: No worries. I been in these situations in real life…
2-…Calling all funeral homes. This is Tracy. I need a hearse at…
ROCK: SHE’S STILL BREATHING, TRACY! BLONDIE: No, I’m not. ROCK: Yes. You are. BLONDIE: No. I’m NOT!
3-WHATSERNAME: You know that we’re deep into the third act. Does anyone have a plan to end this turkey of a play?
JAY BOGART: Awh, that amateur Tracy changed the flow. Now I’m a criminal instead of a famous producer and he thinks he needs to kill me.
WHATSERNAME: Clever. So, he’s turned you into a Harvey Weinstein type producer. JAY: You’re right! Get me a walker so I can milk the audience’s sympathy. This play needs some mixed emotion regarding the bad guy – is he bad or just a product of his upbringing sort of thing.
Confirmation: Tess is down! This explains visually and textually why Tracy and Johnny are not in pursuit of the wounded dumb Shaky Mk.2. Meanwhile his moll/driver, Edison Lighthouse, has not yet realized that Shaky, too, was shot. He’s going to need treatment; has he got a trusted crooked doc, or will Edison have to act as his emergency medic? —He can’t risk visiting a legitimate, law-abiding hospital or clinic or doctor, who would report a gunshot woundee….

Good morning™, frantic escapees !
Panic is not an emotion shaky is acquainted with. Tess is down but doesn’t look shot to me (no red stains).

Probably unintentionally but Johnny seems to be displaying much more concern and affection for Tess than Dick is.
