This comic strip was originally published March 31, 1991 and was the original April birth comic strip. The dialogue has been changed to adjust the situation from a birth to a visit from Carol and Connie to come in and bathe the baby. Here is the original dialogue:
This is the rare instance where I wish they’d just run the original strip. I understand why they didn’t, because back in 1991, Lynn was able to structure it so April was born on Sunday. But it was such a beautiful strip, I think we’d all still enjoy it as it was, even out of order. It’s still lovely though, and exactly a mum’s reaction to seeing her newborn – even though they can look awfully funny when ‘fresh’.
It’s precious the way Lynn captures baby’s tiny size. I remember from my three newborns, and they were anywhere from 7 lbs to 11 lbs, but right after their birth they did fit in my two hands because they were still all scrunched up…
My brother is 12 years younger than I. When he was born my father asked if I wanted to send her a note. I did, and said “Dad says Gary looks like he got hit in the face with a shovel”. Still a beautiful baby, though.

That there is Mom eyes. All the fingers and toes where they are supposed to be and lungs obviously working just fine. The tot is a masterpiece.
