It’s been dry here, no rain, no snow, except for a bit last week, I think it was. Now, it’s snowing, and since a foot is forecast overnight for our town at the base of the pass, it’ll be two feet at the Summit! Yea!
Well, the good news is that chocolate isn’t toxic to mice. I had a bowl filled with those tiny Hershey’s variety chocolate bars on a table when I had a sudden mouse invasion. They ate most of them, and, after I released the dang mice into the wild, I found their nest in a cabinet. A carefully stacked pile of chocolate bars was beside it. Very robber mouse of them.
Today is Pi Day (I’m sure there must be a Pie Day, sometime, but until then those hoping for a fruit, nut, or cream-filled confection will have to wait. As my wife just pointed out, we should also celebrate the Pi Moment, which is somewhere (actually somewhen) between 1:59:26.54 and 1:59:27.55. Please set your watches so you don’t miss it. Yes, it occurs twice unless you use 24 hour or military time.
π is a number intimately connected with everything in the universe, including the universe itself. Nature doesn’t do straight lines (not even light, believe it or not.) How appropriate that it is irrational. There, you have it: the universe is irrational, therefore all us crazy people are the only ones in tune with it. As I’ve always said: Sanity is for those who cannot handle reality.
However, in this era of inclusiveness, why isn’t there an Euler’s Constant day, February 7 (Euler’s Moment is somewhen between 1:8:28.18 and 1:8:28.19. It it occurs twice unless you use 24 hour or military time. e is also irrational and found throughout nature.
We must also include Planck’s Constant Day, June 6. Planck’s Moment is at 6:26:00.00000000000000000000000000000000, precisely. At last, something we can count on. Herr Doktor Planck was not irrational, nor is his constant h. It is vital to understanding quantum physics, which actually governs the way things work—if the theory holds …
My brain hurts. I think it’s time for a slice of pie.
Georgia, thank you so much for writing his strip. I realized what a great diversion it was when I suddenly had the thought ‘let’s see what’s happening in BCN today’. I can’t wait to see what happens with the crew next week when it’s a full house. When there is just NO good news of any kind, we really appreciate this little BCN world more than ever before.
Dear Orb, I need your help in tracking down a video. The video is about a therapist or counselor of some sort who teaches people to use humour in bad situations. I think I saw her mentioned here before. Your help would be much appreciated.
OT, somewhat: Just got home from another Saturday of helping with Hands On Nashville with tornado relief after that huge tornado hit the city. Seeing the devastation that still exists in the North Nashville neighborhood I was in made me feel depressed and sad – reading this when I came home brought some much-needed laughter and smiles to my face. Please keep those who suffered losses in your prayers. I’m already signed up to help again next weekend.
Well, the first batch of home-brewed hand sanitizer is finished, with 2/3 cup 91% rubbing alcohol, almost 1/3 cup pure aloe vera gel, and the rest of the 1/3 cup topped off with dollar store “cocoa oil gel” for some moisturizing (important for my dry skin). It seems to be okay, I can feel the cooling effect of the alcohol which hopefully indicates sanitizing, and after that dries, the oil residue can be rubbed in and absorbed. And it smells nice without being overpowering. However, it is more liquid than store-bought gels and there is separation of ingredients so it needs to be shaken well before applying. I used a dollar store “condiment squeeze bottle” for a container, which works very well—shake and squirt!

What is a begorrah anyway, and how tall is it when it’s at home? I feel like I should know this.

I think that they’ll need to rely on misdirection, since stealth is going to be difficult in that attire…

Violet. You have two bow ties on. That’s not “too formal”, that’s “extra cool”! (No one tell the Eleventh Doctor about these maths, please.)

When Irish mice are disguisin’
Sure, ‘tis they’re up to somethin’
There is cheese or chocolate in the offin’
They may steal ’most anything!
When Irish mice are robbin’
They will do it with grace and style,
Sure, when Irish mice are disguisin’
Your heart is the next thing they’ll steal!
