Oh, how really lovely. Now THAT”S how to make your lady love really love you. And turn around is just the same ladies. Guys respond to the same kinds of loving, kind thoughts and words.
In other words and to quote a great book, “Love never fails”.
prfesser, I was simply answering the oft-repeated question of, “John and Elly are going to get romantic – is THIS the day that they conceive April,” to which the answer is “NO, because (a) it’s too soon for April to be born, and (b) it’s the wrong time of year for her even to be conceived, much less born.”
The fact is that April probably isn’t due to be conceived until approximately July 2017, with a birth date of sometime in April 2018, since Elizabeth was nine and Michael was around 14 when April was born in the month that she’s named after. We’re still a long way away from that time frame; Elizabeth is currently only 2 1/2, and Michael is all of 7 1/2. THAT’S why I said to wait until April 2018 for April to make her first appearance in the strip as it is currently running.
Dr. Toon: I’m sure you have a wonderful marriage. My world’s greatest hubby sees ME, not my grubby work clothes and mussy hair. And I see HIM, not his gray hair or little pot belly. After 37 years, it’s still all wonderful.
Well done, John! Very well done, indeed! Wives need to hear that stuff every now and then (and not just when their husband’s are looking to “get lucky”!). It lets us know that you still find us attractive — even when we don’t feel that way about ourselves sometimes. I’m very lucky to have a husband that still gives me compliments like that, too, after 22 years of marriage.
P.S.: Doctor Toon, you’re a real sweetie pie and your wife is most fortunate to have you as her husband. With an attitude like this, I can pretty much guarantee that she’ll love you forever!
Ladyfinger, of course they are reruns. For the first couple of years, Lynn continued to draw new Sunday strips while the dailies were rerun (and sometimes updated - e.g. Connie typing her “lonely hearts” ad on a computer instead of a typewriter) Lynn called them “newruns”. Since last July, we have been seeing all reprints (except for a week of strips a couple of months ago to replace a week of originals that were lost), and they are being printed in the same order as the original strips. Legaleagle was just projecting, based on the reruns being presented in that same order. He’s right. If Lynn continues to publish this way, April will be conceived in late June or early July 2017and be born during an ice storm on April 1, 2018. Here’s hoping we keep on seeing these reruns long enough for that to happen!!
Always great to hear that from someone who can look past all the defects that you see in the mirror. Men are usually more about their accomplishments, but we women are about our appearance as we are usually judged that way.

April was born many many many years later… Both Liz and Michael were much older.

And April was BORN in April, not CONCEIVED in April, ladyfingers86. That’s how she got her name.
As I have said many times before, don’t look for April to be born before about 2018 or so – and in APRIL of 2018, not before!

Oops, close your eyes kiddies. They may not be conceiving April, but they’re gonna give it a good go.

Why does everyone assume that John’s only reason for complimenting his wife is that he wants a little nookie? Can’t a man just be nice?

We ladies need to understand that a man who loves you doesn’t love your clothes and makeup. He loves you!

Hooray for a husband who knows the right thing to say. :) (I admit mine is pretty good at it most of the time, too, coming up on 5 years this summer!)
