Though it’s been a couple of decades since I read it, I’ve never forgotten the part in Red Sky at Morning by Richard Bradford where some kids in New Mexico play a game of run-and-touch-the-dead-horse. Of course, one kid trips and falls right on top of the . . . well, you get the picture. It’s probably safer to stick with the floor-is-lava game.
