This strip is soooooo confusing!

What I don’t get is why Delray lied to Dana. Does he not want her to know he went out with his parole officer? Why would she care? Does she think he never dated any other women before they met? Lying to her created a lot more problems than just telling her the truth would have done. She’s probably had an active love life as well before they met.
