A double thick cotton mask outperforms surgical masks & N95s under normal use by non-medical personnel – the W.H.O. did a short study/test on the topic very recently. Of course, they were cough-testing the spread of COVID-19 by an infected, but low-symptoms person in a room with petri-dishes.
The person coughed 5 times, then they removed the exposed petri-dish and checked it for the presence of the virus.1. no mask2. surgical mask (the pleated kind that loops over the ears3. N-95 medical mask4. homemade double thick (2 fabric layers) maskThe mask that leaked the least was #4. The testers were very surprised. :)
So far I’ve made two masks for my husband. He complained the first one was too big. I made the next one medium sized with adjustable straps. He didn’t like the nose piece, so I replaced it with a different one. Then he wanted it to cover more of his face. I can’t win. On the nice side, my mom loved the mask I made for her.

Where’s the masks with a “smile” on it? Or a big, handle-bar mustache? I’ve heard they’re out there, but I’ve never seen one.
