Tiff feigning concern: “You guys are really going to THAT CABIN?”
Evil Annie: "Yeah, it will be a romantic get awa… What do you mean, “THAT CABIN?”
Tiff: “Uh, nuthin, really…”
Evil Annie grabs Tiff by her arm: “Alright, twerp – spill it or I can make it to where you never see your old man again!”
Tiff: "It might be you I might not see again, and that’s fine with me. You see, you’re not the first one dad has come this close to; including mom, you are the fourth. Then, he whisks them off to THAT CABIN.
Evil Annie: “Yeah? So what?”
Tiff: “No one’s ever seen them again – (Tiff turns from Evil Annie while bawling her eyes out) I miss my mom… boo, hoo hoo…”
.
Lawzee mercy, Tiff’s cheesy acting career might just pay off.
Note to Tiffany: Oh goody, Daddy’s “money slump” is over and things can get back to normal. But in the meantime, better have a talk with Dad about what he’s going to pay you for being the “housekeeper”. Don’t get greedy, tell Daddy you’re willing to house sit for free.
“Not to be confused with sitting around the house.” I was expecting Ann Eiffel to follow that with: “Tiffany, you are so big that when you sit around the house, you really sit around the house.”
I mostly enjoy the Luann comics. Have followed for years. But I hate bullies. Even bullies in comic strips. Like Dirk, who got what he deserved and got straightened out. So it’s hard to believe Greg is still allowing Ann to continue being a bullying, lying, manipulating, narcissist when he could doing something positive with this particular story arc. It’s also sad that Tiffany’s dad is so clueless that his daughter is hurting and has allowed Ann to ‘run the show.’ But he’s hasn’t yet, so I will do the usual and pass on the Luann comic until yet another ‘nasty’ Ann story arc has run it’s course. And just when I was enjoying the return of Brad, Toni and Shannon after a long absence….
Ann’s crossed way over the line now acting like Tiffany’s mom and making her the maid. Come on Dad! Grow a bakcbone and stand up for your daughter. Throw that evil witch Ann out on her butt!
I think it’s going to be a good while before Ann gets her comeuppance, but meanwhile we can daydream about ways it might happen. Here’s one:
In the strip of 2018/03/01, after Tiffany confronted Ann about the fake Souffle lingerie scam at The Fuse, Ann said, “Fine. I’ll shut down this biz. I got others.” So …
During an investigation relating to some of Anne’s businesses, federal agents raid an apartment in West Pitts. In it, they find a computer-controlled embroidery machine (basic models of which are not super-expensive these days, in case anyone’s wondering) and a thumb drive containing embroidery codes for the Souffle logo in various sizes. And apparently someone’s finger slipped while doing the drag-and-drop gesture to copy the embroidery files from their (super-secured) laptop hard drive onto the (unencrypted) thumb drive, and a bunch of other files got copied to the thumb drive (and automatically decrypted in the process) as well, including bookkeeping records from the Souffle scam and other shady ventures.
Ann’s top lawyer “almost fiancé” loses interest in defending her when it transpires that the raided apartment was shared by Ann and her other lover, who happens to be that great young accountant Ann found for Tom shortly before his “money slump” began.
Also discovered on the thumb drive: (1) notes that Ann made while planning the sabotage of TJ’s food truck in revenge for their run-in at Weenie World (not realizing that the food truck business was floundering and TJ was sick of it); (2) Ann’s “Tokyo School Girls” diary; (3) information that leads authorities to reopen the cold case file on what exactly happened to Les’s father.
When ANNE’s not being totally evil, which admittedly is not often, at least not from what we see, there’s something almost (as I head for the bomb shelter) likeable about her. Come on, be honest, isn’t there some one besides me that finds some humor in seeing Tiffany’s (historically) overinflated ego getting a pin prick? Think about it, obviously Tom’s getting something from Anne that he likes, needs, or at the very least finds intriguing. As the woman who wrote “How to marry a Millionaire” said on a talk show, is don’t be nice. A rich man already has a hundred employee’s, flunkies and “friends” all to willing to be “nice” and ingratiating. Long story short, according to the author, a woman who says “no” is a woman that a millionaire finds intriguing; a woman who says “yes”, well, just isn’t that interesting.
Need a historical example? By all accounts Wallace Simpson (twice?) divorced and worse, an American with out ANY royal lineage, treated the Duke of Windsor (and future King of Enland), as her personal servant and he gave up his throne for her (“the woman I love”).
Featuring a large cast of characters in subplots enables G & K to jump around without filling in the gaps. We see Tiffany crying at The Fuse that she failed in school. Then we see Nancy kicking Ann out of The Fuse. Then we see Shannon with her hamster….Then we see Tiffany already moved into Tom & Ann’s house – which would have been over her dead body a while ago. It looks like Tiff doesn’t make enough at The Fuse to even live with a roommate somewhere. But I’m hoping we will suddenly find Tiffany at Frank & Nancy’s house.
Tom gave his GIRLFRIEND the authority to fire his house staff? Or did Ann say which led him to think otherwise? Such as they quit? Or is she lying to Tiffany? The house staff is gone on their paid vacation and that is Ann’s evil plan to completely humiliate Tiffany while she’s on her “romantic getaway.” Tiff, don’t let her get to you. Just do not do any housekeeping. Just eat at The Fuse. Keep your room and bathroom clean. That is it. If your dad gets back and gives you h3ll for a dirty house, just smile and tell him “I was housesitting. Why am I responsible for housekeeping? Where was your house staff, dad?”
Maybe Ann will have an “accident” at the cabin. Maybe the chef will poison her. Is she allergic to anything? No Benadryl on hand and too far from an ER.
And Tiffany’s decent into the “Infernal Regions” continues.
And judging by the looks of that “list,” she’s gonna need a lot more than some lusty dishwasher to help her clean the joint up. I wonder if Tiff still has any “influence” with Ox or the football team, the guys that first helped her move into her private dorm during “happier times?” And the Hall A Gang DOES owe her a favor, although I can’t see Steph agreeing to do manual labor.
Time to cut ties with Dad for good, drop out of college temporarily and and make other living arrangements. Tiffany should either get very close to Nancy at this point to score that empty room at the DeGroots. Or start sweeting talking My favorite Nerd into getting off his high horse and permitting her to quietly “crash” at the Gulag for awhile.
But BEFORE all that, BEFORE Tiff makes that “phone call for help,” she needs to go outside and take a pic of her sport car. You know, for the sake of “find memories?”
That’s the point where even Tiffany should say, sweetly of course ‘But Ann, I’m working a lot of overtime at the Fusion, I can feed the pets but can’t do this, sorry’. Then frantically call the Deroot in charge and ’splain what is happening and to cover for her…if not use her (everyone needs OT)
Remember when Ann committed a crime that Tiff knows about, and Tiff never reported her for some reason? I don’t think GE does. But sure, let’s keep going with this Tiffany abuse because it’s so fascinating, and she deserves it for being slightly more interested in boys than Luann.
It’s not unheard of for a housesitter to do some light housework. But, given the size of the home/property (I assume there’s a pool too), Tiffany would be wise to keep a journal of every chore and errand she renders.
She should also keep all receipts of cleaning supplies, maintenance, or unexpected bills that may come up and keep a mileage log.
With her being a business major, I hope Tiffany will bring all this up and form an agreement in writing before they leave. As a business degree holder myself, that’s what I would do.
Please, please, please, give Tiffany a backbone for once. Hand the list and the apron and broom to dad saying that as you are not being paid you don’t see why you should work as their housekeeper and get out.
On Monday Ann was eager to leave. But now she is not in any hurry. Guess she was just eager to get Tom away from Tiffany. Tiffany will have the mansion to herself for 2 weeks and Ann will not know if she is cleaning or not. That sounds like a pleasant 2 weeks for Tiff.
Tiffany is just not very bright and to constantly let Ann control her is very sad. She will never learn. We don’t know where Toms money came from but to let Ann into his house, his judgement of people is not very good
I’m taking this off my comics list until this thread is finished. This is depressing (YES, I KNOW IT’S A COMIC), and the world is depressing enough right now.
Looking at how happy Ann is in the last panel, I have the awkward feeling that people in maid outfits are one of her fetishes… But at least now it is clear that Tom’s financial problems are an old story and Ann keeps the house without staff because she wants to have all the power, over the house and over her almost stepdaughter.
Never happen. Greg NEVER finishes an arc, he ALWAYS leaves things hanging. You will never see anything positive in this comic. Nobody lives happily ever after. Greg wants to leave you hanging…forever.
We’ve been milking that Evil Ann cow for a long time now. Then we return for a dash of annoying Shannon, toss in a little creepy Uncle Al, and his fussy Edith Bunker wife, give a nod to sleazy Leslie, then stand back to wonder why we even bother visiting this depressing town. Why? Because I keep waiting for Tiffany to lift her chin, stick out her chest, strip off that shapeless sweatshirt, step over Ann, and re-enter the world as the sexy diva she was meant to be.
So, filling in the gaps here, I’d say dad asked her to house sit while they are gone.since the luannaverse does not seem to be struck by plague.Presumably summer classes are on break (there was no hint that the blackout party was a end of semester party)
Most likely she bombed a major test, as i doubt the single class would be over so soon.
BUT since our dear author didn’t bother to give us such clues on this storyline we must of course assume.
Also note the past tense in ann’s wording – clearly they can afford a chef and a housekeeper, (I seriously don’t think she’s hinting that tif is the new housekeeper full time)
Cinderella, CinderellaAll I hear is Cinderella, from the moment I get uptill shades of night are fallingThere isn’t any letup, I hear them calling, calling“Go up and do the attic and go down and do the cellar, you can do themboth togetherCinderella.”by Mack David, Al Hoffman, Jerry Livingston
“Gee, Ann I started a House/Pet Sitting Service, even got an LLC and every thing. Here is my contract for services, etc. Good luck finding someone else. let me know what you and Tom decide. Bye.”
Sorry, this strip has now jumped the cruelty shark for me. There’s this torment of a character doesn’t seem to have any point, and the antagonist never seems to have a limit or true consequences for her actions. To paraphrase Michael O’Donoghue, “There is no moral, just random acts of emotional violence.”
If she “fired them during the money slump” then who has been doing the housework since then? Ann? I hardly think so. Anyway it looks like the so called “money slump” is over so why not hire them back? This is a setup to further abuse Tiffany and nothing more. She probably sent the staff away on vacation while she and Tom are away at the cabin. That way Tiffany has to do all the work and fend for herself. This is going to be a learning experience for Tiffany but Ann is evil and mean and is enjoying it way too much.
Not liking Ann, but what’s the problem again with expecting someone who hasn’t done much and just been pampered all her spoiled life to chip in and clean the house she gets to “sit”? Even if she still has her dorm room available, she gets this house to herself, and we’re supposed to sympathize with her because the chef won’t be available and she needs to clean?Ann needs a smackdown, but so does Tiff. She hasn’t changed or matured much.
Somewhere “Snookums” is tapping his foot, waiting. Wish he’d come back in and see what Ann’s up to, grow “up” and realize what she’s doing to Tiff. Well, one can dream…..§;-)
Why doesn’t Tiffany hold on to the list and as Ann and Tom are leaving she had it to Tom and say… I won’t have time to do everything on the list that you and Ann made for me as I have to work at he Fuse to be sure I have tuition money for next year since you and Ann cut of my funds This way she puts it out there what is going on leaving an opening to see if he is in cahoots with Ann At least she would know where she stands…
Tiffany as star of “Perils of Pauline” Show is getting old fast. We know she can’t buy a break because she’s broke. Dad didn’t even bother to say hello? He knows nothing about Ann’s plan to make his daughter a housekeeper? This is getting off the rails.
Welcome to the dismals. The only thing more dismal would be if Gunther moves in with Bets and Tiff moves in with Les. Then the G-man, Tiff and Les can all be dismal forever and the Gulag would indeed be a gulag.
Let us gaze into the “Crystal Ball of Dismal.” Luann sinks into deep depression pining over lost loves. Tara enters rehab for the third time. Jack works for a tow truck service, changing flat tires in the rain.
Bernice becomes a renowned psychoanalyst. But she suffers intermittent ennui over her perceived failure to help her lifelong friends.
I am still amazed, after all these years, that no one has ever tried to knife Ann Eiffel, or stuck a gun in her face and pulled the trigger. Well, that we know of, anyway.
I am just so tired on this thread with Ann. Tiff’s dad is a schmuck that can’t see the forest for the trees. Ann is a leach. There’s no end to this nonsense. Just when it looks like Tiff is getting it together, it’s 3 steps back and she can’t even afford anything and Ann is still around.
In my mind, there are no “financial woes” in the land of Tom “Cat” Ferrel. And, I do not believe for a single moment that Annie “FIRED” all the hired help… there is no way in hell that Annie would deny herself those luxuries.
I am still firmly of the opinion that what Annie has done is to send all the hired help “on vacation” during the time she and Tom “Cat” are away…. specifically so she can goad, and prod, and continue to denigrate and demoralize Tiffany. THAT behavior, provides for Annie, a bigger “rush” than all the luxuries Tom “Cat” provides.
Still… in this modern variant of Cinderella…. to me, it seems that once Annie and Tom “Cat” are out the door, then the real fun begins. What ways and how will Tiffany respond? Will it be a constant battle of Tiffany’s good side and bad side? Or in a more Freudian construct, will her Id, her Ego, or her Superego predominate the lay of the Summer? This is where it will be very entertaining to be observers of Greg’s story.
Do they have to drag this story line out for so long? And I agree, why is she suddenly in desperate need to live at her father’s house? Everyone is waiting for the big resolve here when Ann finally gets what she deserves. I don’t want this to be like real life, where creeps seem to prosper. I read comics generally to escape from them.
Monday: We first saw Wayne Manor. I was all set with a week’s worth of Bat jokes. But our cities were on fire and attention was diverted.
Tuesday: The fat joke. Suddenly, the real world seemed more comforting than the so-called funnies. And it was – here in Denver and other cities, police and even police chiefs started marching with the protestors. When the shooting stopped, the looting stopped. The real world started looking rosier than this comic strip.
Wednesday: I know I saw the strip, but I’ll be hanged if I can remember it. Which brings us up to today.
I see the solution is simple. Go along with it all and then after she leaves do whatever you want. And she gets back you make some lame excuse and say oh well and turn and walk off.
Okay. We need a cross-over here. Tiffany is Cinderella with her evil stepmother and the chores so the Robber Mice from “Breaking Cat News” need to come and help her with that ball gown. One is even handy with a sewing needle.
I am really tired of the Ann story line…how about some good news. Tiffany is a changed person, the metamorphosis may not be complete but, Tom’s neglect of his daughter has gone on long enough. Ann must be revealed to him. There is already too much bad story line in the world right now…I need a happy ending from some place!
If Tom gave Ann money to pay Tiffany for housesitting, I bet Ann kept it for herself… that is why she wanted Tom out so quickly. I don’t really think Tom has enough brains to make sure Tiffany is taken care of… he let the monster come in to abuse his daughter and later after the fallout will say he didn’t know… typical excuse for the complicit parent.
The level(s) of demean that Ann is inflicting on a down at heels Tiffany is aggravated in this set of panels, which I describe this way because I perceive it to be part of a larger arc about Tiffany that the strip is pursuing. I agree with Pipe that the psychological aspects of how Tiffany will react to all the shade Ann is throwing at her will be a frame on how events will be drawn going forward. I also think the overall dysfunctionality of the parents of Tiffany, her emotionally absent and clueless selfish excuse of a father, and Les, with his evilly grifter mom who wants to cruelly demean Tiffany into irrelevance with her honey pot, Tom; these constructs have to play a big part in events as well. Then there is Nancy, another parent, albeit a very good, strong role model one, with Luann. And Gunther with his fiery Bets, who is concerned about Tiffany, and has been protective of her. No these events have to correlate together in very interesting and entertaining ways coming up. Those who want to change are entitled, but they are totally missing the bigger picture IMHO.
History has shown that the more Ann tries to demean and demote Tiff, the more Tiff is motivated to succeed on her own. One possibility here is that Tiff uses the resources and space in the mansion to start her nail-art business. And if Tom and Ann are gone all summer and if the business is successful, she could earn enough to pay off dorm fees, have more time to study and lay the ground work for independence from her dad. I’m hoping for some version of this.
I am loving the build up of tension. And the indirect and direct views of Tiffany’s life are refreshing. I like that there is no Magic bullet with her lifestyle change-it’s hard and she backslides, which is what happens.
Tiff can peek into all of the She-Devil’s drawers and closets and put some of her stuff in a yard sale. She can say someone broke into house when she went out and forgot to lock the door. She can charge food, etc. to the house account.
A refreshing twist on this plot would be if the writers just ran with the Cinderella parallels and turned it into a humorous fantasy retelling of the story (sort of like Doonesbury’s summer daydreams or the Foxtrot’s kids’ dreams) casting some of the regulars as the fairy tale characters. (I like the idea of idea of someone like T.J. showing up as the equivalent of the fairy godmother, since he’s the only person who has managed to outsmart Ann so far, although Knute would also be fun as he is such a whiz at cleaning.)
I’d really like to see Ann removed permanently from this comic, but all Tiffany has to do now is take the broom, say “bye!” and then do whatever she wants to in the house. She’s not getting paid to house sit or clean, so she shouldn’t worry about Ann’s chore list.
So is Ann going to PAY Tiffany to be a housekeeper? I really wish Tiffany’s dad would walk-in right now. But he would probably side with Ann and tell Tiffany it would be good for her.
Nancy has been sympathetic to Tiffany at The Fuse. And Nancy just saw how horrible Tiff’s possible stepmother is. G & K had Pru move out for a plot reason – it seems to me that Nancy will want to help Tiffany with that room. Luann has shown some sympathy for Tiff lately, including watching Star Trek together when Tiff was in her depressed and fat mode. That said, if Tiff winds up at the DeGroots, I don’t think Tiff can boss Luann around – Lu wouldn’t allow it and Tif must know she has no leverage here. And we saw the look Nancy gave to Ann – I think Nancy could keep Tiffany in line if need be.
Might as well play the role while needed and plan to exit stage right when the time comes. Ann is her father’s money slump. If that money leach ever leaves then his money issues are solved. But likely not to happen since he’s under her evil spell. All Tiffany can do is hang on for dear life. Just hope they never get hitched and have kids of their own at the rate they’re going!
Take this job and shove it! I ain’t working here for you. Tom’s money problem is Ann, but he’ll never see it until he takes off the rose-colored glasses.
Ann was eager to leave on Monday. I wonder if Tom has been waiting in the car all this time while Ann abuses Tiffany? This could go on all next week before Ann actually leaves for the cabin. We may not see Tiffany alone at the mansion at all.
Nobody can make her do all those chores. What’s Daddy gonna do, fire her? There is also nothing to stop her from stuffing all the curtain rods with sardines. Muhahahahaha!
Please Tiff, suggest to daddy that they go to a wonderful little restaurant called “The Fuse” where Ann’s son works, surely Ann, you want to see your son!. Watch as hilarity ensues.
Walk away, Tiffany. Move in with the DeGroots, make crazy tips at the Fuse, open your own fashion business with Gun, have Bets run the business side of things.
And don’t go back to college. You don’t belong there any more than Lori Loughlin’s kids.
I don’t agree with the “Tiffany deserves to be paid” line of thinking. Tiffany is no longer a minor. She has squandered a ton of her father’s money and produced exactly nothing to show for it. And there are tens of millions of Americans who would leap at the opportunity to stay in a mansion like that in return for housekeeping duties. Ann is doing Tiffany a favor by laying down the law.
Oh Hell No. Tiffany, just leave. Have some dignity. And if you are reading, Evanses, cut this bullying crap out. It’s negative enough out there, do I have to see abuse in my comics, too. Time to skip.

Tiffany needs for Ann leave the Mansion and pretend to be the housekeeper. I imagine that Ann fired the groundskeeper and the pool guy.
I wonder who was the previous housekeeper? I think that Ann is being not truthful. Ann is trying to slip in some insults before leaving.

Bernice becomes a renowned psychoanalyst. But she suffers intermittent ennui over her perceived failure to help her lifelong friends.

If Tom gave Ann money to pay Tiffany for housesitting, I bet Ann kept it for herself… that is why she wanted Tom out so quickly. I don’t really think Tom has enough brains to make sure Tiffany is taken care of… he let the monster come in to abuse his daughter and later after the fallout will say he didn’t know… typical excuse for the complicit parent.
luann1212 over 4 years ago
RSH over 4 years ago
History has shown that the more Ann tries to demean and demote Tiff, the more Tiff is motivated to succeed on her own. One possibility here is that Tiff uses the resources and space in the mansion to start her nail-art business. And if Tom and Ann are gone all summer and if the business is successful, she could earn enough to pay off dorm fees, have more time to study and lay the ground work for independence from her dad. I’m hoping for some version of this.
