From the placement of the old 2-ways, it looks like Sam is right-handed and Lizz is left-handed. Or ambidextrous. Meanwhile, where do they keep their Wrist GeeNees?
My mind still reels from the strips pacing
But that isn’t what sets my pulse a racing
It’s Lizz getting out of her civvies
And lying there in her skivvies
As an object of my hearts desire
She has a way of making my brain perspire
A lady of great renown
She looks much better sans a gown
But my juvenile lust will come to naught
Leaving me just a little bit distraught
So while my thoughts may lie in the gutter
The story so far does not sputter
It remains a tour de force
As it runs its course
Excitement and suspense at every turn
Our praise they do earn
Each day is delightful for us to read
On this I think we are all agreed.
Joe, I was wondering if you were going to use your own comic book style, which I love so much, or follow Chester Gould’s style, an icon in the industry. How great to discover you have blended them both very well. Bravo! I look forward to reading your strip regularly.

If anyone was following the Tribute Site then they would know how this plays out. Millyun indeed meets up with Liz but that is all I’ll say. I hope they follow up this series with the Flaky Biscuit story that they were working on when they took over for Locher. I’m wanting to see the finish of it.

Liz steals from the storyline! She’s a hottie if I ever saw one. Can’t wait for the handcuff scene! (After all, she is a cop isn’t she? And cops have cuffs)
Yesterday, Terry Pleger asked :
” Is Sam Ambidexextrous ” ?
Well, I’m not quite SURE, but now that he is SMOKING again, (reconstitued after - 34 years), It helped me recall a Chet Gould panel several years ago when he had 2 cigarettes “going” at the SAME time. One between his lips and the others between the fingers of his LEFT hand.
Now, I’m not sure if that’s useful, or PROVES anything, other than he IS a chain smoker (?) … but there it is !
On the other hand (no pun intended), in his famous fight with Mr. Bribery’s man Nah Tay he used the latter’s knife in his RIGHT hand and later winged the escaping assailant firing with a gun in his RIGHT hand (12-29-65) but that might notprove that hie IS ambidextrous (?)
Well, Lizz has been married twice. She was introduced in the OODLES story as working at Nothing Yonson’s and the wife of Jimmy the Reporter. Jimmy faded away after the IVY storyline, and by that time Lizz had joined the force. Later in a story with Groovy, she mentioned being widowed. And of course she married Groovy and was widowed.
Sam on the right hand or left hand? I’ll look at some old Gould strips and we’ll think about it.
Dear Mike Curtis,
I justed wanted to thank you and the team. Not just for the amazing job you’re all doing on Dick Tracy. The story and artwork have been outstanding! But, the main reason I wanted to say thanks is for how “readily” available you’ve been. I’ve been a fan of many things through the years. I can’t remember anyone, taking as much time out to actually associate with the fans, as you have. It’s a nice change of pace to see someone actually caring about what the fans think and the end product. Then just being conserned with a paycheck. Keep up the great work (not that I have any doubt you guys won’t). “See you in the funnie papers.”
Sincerly, Dan

Well, I patrol here and send comments off to Joe and crew.
It’s early times yet and we want to make sure we are pleasing the “constant readers” as Stephen King might say.
But we also have enough of the fanboy in us to put some items in and see who spots them. Like The Shadow’s cabbie.
Terry -
I did notice back on 3/23 (the 10th day of the new team’s work) … that in the middle panel Tracy seems to have too many fingers on his left hand. We don’t see the thumb, but we do see five fingers … the hand’s very small and resting on the desk … see it?
————————————————————————————
I admit I missed that one. I was talking with Shelley about some of the errors that have shown up and she told me that when she first started she was unwilling to “alter” Joe’s pencil art. This was when they were doing the Tribute page. When TMS decided to let the team do Tracy she was working on the crossover work from the old Locher to the new teams story. At that time she began asking about changing things that bugged her (Pats crossed legs when he put his feet on the desk in the 3/20/11 Sunday). The current Flyface and The Fifth story was the first work the team did. Most of the character design was determined here. Many have already mentioned Flakey Biscuits. When that story starts, (yes it follows this one) the art is mostly being “fixed” by Shelley. I have also started taking an interest in her work and make comments now and then. I think you are all going to be VERY happy with what the team is putting together for you. So sit back, drink your coffee, and enjoy your Dick Tracy!
Mr Curtis in pertaining to saturday’s Mike Danger link, WOW!
I want to see more, more more!
And today’s’ panel two is by far currently my favorite shot of Lizz.
Kind of 80’s/40’s retro hip, and my only complaint about any of this is.
Where will we be able to buy the entire story?
I’m hoping that there will be reprinted collection somewhere.
We the fans have got to get a petition started to make this happen.
A series of reprints that are:
Properly sized,
Printed from the original’s,
Colored correctly,
Disturbed from a solicitor that will deliver the material on time,
And are reasonably priced.
I think we really need to start petitioning for this now.
My name is Christopher Mills, and I’m a pal of - and long time collaborator with - Dick Tracy artist Joe Staton. In fact, I was the guy who hired him for that Mike Danger strip Mike linked to on Saturday.
Like everyone else here, I’ve been really enjoying what Joe and Mike and the rest of their team have been doing with the Dick Tracy strip. I’m an old fan of the character who just couldn’t stomach the strip over the last couple of decades (since Collins & Fletcher), so I’m thrilled to be able to actually follow it again.
If anyone’s interested in other work by Joe in the Dick Tracy vein, Joe and I have been producing an internet comic strip and comic book series called “Femme Noir” about a mysterious lady detective in a world very much like Tracy’s, for several years now.
If anyone would like to check it out, here’s a link to the graphic novel collection on Amazon:
I was glad to see the ” short arm “, and see it as an homage to Mr. Gould’s style.
Say what you want, but I consider Gould to be a fantastic artist, and not just a ” stylist “.
And yes, the story is proceeding nicely. I did not read the Locher/Brozman until just before Staton/Curtis took over, and it was apparent how bad things had become.
I also wondered about future collections of this current storyline. At present, I am ” scrapbooking ” each day, in case the current run doesn’t get collected.
Please, someone, collect this run…it’s the best DT has looked in years !
As an old Tracy fan from way back, I’ve discussed Gould’s art with Joe.
We regard Gould as a great storyteller and a great artist. But Gould’s art was also very abstract. People’s features might be a sqiggle of lines (WORMY) or nonesistent (SPOTS). People could have impossible features (LITTLEFACE) but what was important was that their CHARACTER shown through. Or as Gould himself said, he drew his criminals as ugly people because he saw them as ugly. Remember, Gould lived in the Chicago area when Legs Diamond, Al Capone and others were there.
With Joe and I and millions of other fans, abstract was good!
