What substance/ingredient inside a popcorn kernel makes it pop? http://www.facebook.com/pages/Daddys-Home/175279239689?ref=ts

I thought it was little nanobots struggling to get out when all the microwaves bombarded them… But I never was very good at cooking.

I haven’t made popcorn in ages (used to put on lots of weight from the huge cans delivered constantly to our office in holiday times). Daddy should buy an old popcorn pan (with stir rod) to show him (or even the more recent foil ones if they still exist). If I decide to have it now I would opt to make the organic kind with alternate seasonings since I’m trying to be healthy- but the toon is really cute!

We had a popcorn popper that was kind of a cross between a crockpot & a double boiler. Could be used as a small deep fryer. Worked great, but required constant attention because it was a fire waiting to happen.
