I think it’s just right, if you’ve been following the story from the beginning. I like how he gives him a hard time first, but then says he won’t forget him. That’s how guys are. We can push each other around but in the end still be loyal. Works for me as a guy.
Yes, even as a bird person I know all pets need to be loved and really appreciate when they are. My first big bird (and soulmate) was a cockatoo, who belonged to a young man recently married who let the wife confine her to a dark basement with a single exposed bulb. I loved her for over 23 years until she died young from laying too many eggs (prolapse). I then looked at local shelters for a smaller older bird (due to my own age) and now have my Timneh Grey who is a sweet pet and I will teach and spoil as possible but then he will go to a son who has similar size birds already (so he can be part of a flock).
