Ain’t that the truth. I learned this at 18, when a state patrolman mistook my car for another white car and pulled me over for racing. I refused to sign the ticket, knowing I was innocent, but finally gave in. I truly thought all I would have to do is explain to the judge about the mistaken identity and the truth would win out. Oh, the naivety of an 18-year-old on her own! I was not offered a court appointed lawyer, the judge, who didn’t listen to a word I said, told me either someone was lying or someone was telling the truth, and as I wasn’t a state patrolman, I had to be the liar (yes, he used that word). I was given a “lower” charge of negligent driving, which about bankrupted me while I was working my way through college. The kicker is, the state patrolman caught up with me in the hall after the trial and said I was right. Once he listened to me explain it in court, there was no way I could have been the other white car. I said then why didn’t he go back in and be a man, and tell the judge he made a mistake and I was telling the truth and was innocent? He faltered, and said he couldn’t do that. The look I gave him should have shriveled what was left of his, um, jewels.
Sure hope he became a better man after that. The look of shame on his face gave me hope.

In short, just which parts of the truth to tell. Truth will only set you free if it’s told properly.

Believe me, “The truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth” is NOT how it’s done.

You have to trick the jury into believing the truth; sadly true.

Too many think justice is when either side has an even chance to win.
Annoying honk buzzer; Wrong answer.
Justice is when the guilty go down & the innocent go free,
with no regard for uniforms or team colors.

Never underestimate the power of a good attorney. Representing yourself is a easy win for the prosecution.
