Dang, We’ve been there, seen that. But the reality is hitting home. You can see it in Arlo’s expression, but it doesn’t really look different between panels 3 and 4 but somehow it seems different.

Is she going to start sunbathing nude?

How startled could Arlo possibly be?

It might not be the view, but the attitude that caused the startled behavior.

So next summer, a no piece bathing suit, and no tan lines?

“In that case, I need a picture. You know how my memory is failing.”

She is switch to one piece suit.

YES! That monokini he bought her for Mother’s Day wasn’t a waste of money after all.

The word ‘gobsmacked’ comes to mind. roflol

Lucky Arlo! She’s switching to topless. Have fun putting on her sunscreen.

Janis has gotten Arlo’s attention two ways.

Breakout the champagne and strawberries, we must honor two piece tan lines and their memories.

I envy Jimmie Johnson because he know what she looks like naked. The rest of us need to use our imagination.

Any guesses how old A&J are supposed to be? They seem to have been retired for a few years (although I don’t think work was ever discussed), have a full-grown son, but still have naturally colored hair and generally behave like late-30s people. Two piece bathing suits would be unusual for women with many of those characteristics.

How cruel! Don’t we get to see?

Time (and geography) is vaguer in this cartoon than in, say, “For Better or for Worse.” It’s getting vaguer in “Gasoline Alley,” too, it seems . .

I wish the last panel had been left blank, and all of you guys were invited to fill it in.

Great comic; but I agree with some recent posts of the last few days that Janis doesn’t seem to be her old cheerful self. Maybe it is as someone said above -she realizes age is creeping up on her. ( like it is for all of us)

Used to love nude sunbathing, now too much “flop over” to get an all over!

Man, the second comic strip today with a woman complaining about her looks. Boring!

for you ‘young folk’…..google arlo guthrie and janis joplin….arlo 1947 and janis 1943…so just like me…pushing 70 but staying in shape…. ‘cept we got a full grown daughter and thank God…all our hair!!…with natural color ( out of a bottle…) and yes…..still act like we’re in our thirties….( ok..make it early 40’s)…

….and by the way…my wife ‘flashed’ me when she got out of the shower this morning…..!

Poor Janis, trying to prepare herself for Senior citizen status in a few years. Arlo says not yet.

Arlo has that classic “deer in the headlights” look. Must be the high beams.

Years ago when my daughter was in college she studied French in Nice, France, which is noted for its nude beaches. I told her that when she got home the first thing I was going to look for was strap lines. They were there.

That eventually happened between my wife and I (to long ago now I hate to say), but I took full advantage of the situation.

We celebrated those last, fading tan lines for about 3 hours.

The tan lines may be fading, but older age is rushing.

So, going for every nook and cranny body tan? Mucus membranes burn more easily.
