Georgia posted on Instagram that their family was camping and stargazing in their backyard last night, having completely forgotten about yesterday’s strip! I hope life didn’t imitate art a second time and drench them all!
Fresh baked bread, just starting rain, just out of the dryer clothes, the scent of a container of cream being opened… these are a few of my cat’s favorite things. (Grin!)
Came home tonight and Patch was crouched down, drinking from what he now apparently considers his private personal water hole. (It only appears when the sprinklers have been on.)
A joyous moment yesterday, when I divided the tuna water for Katie and Tag. I included bits of tuna with the drained water. They were ecstatic. I never knew cats could have such facial expressions. Side note: I made that gosh-awful tuna casserole for my husband. A dish I’m not crazy about, but Hubby requests from time to time.
Hello, Jules here from atop the Big Pink House ceiling light. After a steamy night of heat lightning, a storm has brought a fresh breeze. Cats and July bugs are basking in the cool night air. Taunting and fist shaking are expected to resume in the morning.
I love enthusiastic sniffing on a summer’s evening.
In all honesty, rain really does smell wonderful. Summer rain has a different scent than fall rain. I sit on our porch, listening to it his the roof and smell the air. One of life’s simpler pleasures.
I have had the opportunity to go on multiple photo safaris in South Africa, Tanzania and, Zimbabwe. The smell of the savannah after it rains, or even first thing in the morning, is incomparable. Same goes for the smell of fresh elephant, or rhino, um, waste :-)
Today is National Junk Food Day. Bring on the fat, sugar, salt, white flour processed within a micrometer of its existence (we call it mindless white flour), and strange chemicals; leave out just about anything of nutritional value—or overwhelm it with the above “ingredients.” Actually, that should be inGREEDients, as these “products” are assembled in agribiz factories, inundate grocery store shelves, are promoted by the sickest advertising (Ronald McDonald alternately horrifies and disgusts me), and consumed by people who should know better—but don’t want to. Obliviots. They (both the “food” and the obliviots) are enormously profitable to the megaconglomerates (that’s mega-CON-GLOM-erates). The chemical content of this … junk is frightening. I fully expect some day to see a package of “food” with the warning label: “Caution! Do not expose to sparks, electrical current, or open flame.” In six point type, of course.
Ever noticed that the “serving size” on which the “nutritional information” is based is so small you could barely taste it? Or, if not, the calorie count was a metric bonkers worth?
HORK!!!
They are also the source of the biggest health crisis, never mind rampant viruses.
On a more positive note, it is also Invite an Alien to Live With You Day—in honor of one of the frenetically funniest comedians of all time, Robin Williams, whose birthday is today.
And for OUR inimitable Robin and the other antipodeans, it is also Lamington Day. A proper, made-from-scratch Lamington is not junk food. It’s desert, and a mighty fine one, too. (NOTE: “scratch” is a 100% natural, organic, non-gmo ingredient.) Enjoy!
For a long time we had no central heat and air, so during storms we opened the doors and latched the screens. Kinky would sit all scrunched up 4-5 feet from the door, and would raise his head and sniff, then scroonch his behind up to his front feet, then do it again. Somehow, he never seemed to move closer, but kept scroonching his behind up towards his front feet.
I live in a travel trailer with a popout for my bed. The popout has a window on each side. I mounted a fan in the window opposite where I sleep blowing out so that I get a breeze coming in the nearest window. A storm is coming tomorrow so last night my breeze was filled with the smell of approaching summer miracles.
No downpour here.. (yet anyway.. tomorrow I think) but the temp has dropped 10 degrees and the humidity has dropped by half. Such a relief. I feel like the cats right now.
They better hope the rain lasts a while and takes the humidity out of the air.
Had finally lost the humidity for like two days last week with nothing to explain why it was gone (probably had some front come down and push it out of the area) only to get a brief rain storm bring it right back over the weekend. Sunday was the worst day of the summer so far here with 95F temps and high humidity (I heard it was supposedly around 83%, but I question that given where it was coming from as I’ve too often seen them be incredibly wrong about what our temp and weather was supposed to be). Temp and humidity went down again last night, but for how long that will last I’ll see.
Just randomly went back to older strips as I saw a notification which led me back. Would you believe there was only 21 comments on this comic back then in 2017?
I was there too. Feels like three years just went away just like that! Feels like I first saw Tommy goofing off in the lawn just some days ago. And if I didn’t know any better, I’d say time flew fast. ;-)
My lovely Orb people & cats (& dogs, & July bugs) – my most wondrous companion Foxy is going to her yearly check-up tomorrow. It’s $57, and anything you could send to paypal.me/iloratrading would be appreciated. I’m running on the fumes from what’s left of my stimulus check.
Foxy is doing well as indoor only, but she wants to explore outside like at my old place, and I want to let her eventually and take her to the park on a harness. <3
I’m sitting on the deck right now, watching lightning bugs, heat lightning, and smelling the sweet aroma of my butterfly bushes. Some rain would be nice. Well, maybe that’s not heat lightning after all, now I hear thunder. Time to head inside…
amidst the many things to love, the little patch of “chest” hair above Pucky’s he-man teeshirt. and of course, the four little upturned mugs “tasting” the smell of rain.

I can’t really say why, but Lupin only being partially invisible is utterly hilarious to me.

When it began, I can’t begin to knowing
But then these smells are growing strong
Was heat lightning
And it became a rainstorm
Who’d have believed Jules’d come along
Breezes, touching noses
Blowing in, touching me, touching you
Sweet cats of mine
Sniff times never seemed so good
I’ve been inclined
To believe they never would
But now I
Look at the night and it don’t seem oppressive
We filled it up with only five
And when we sniff
Humid air rolls off our bodies
When this wind keeps blowin’ thru
Smells, touching noses
Wafting in, touching me, touching you
Sweet summer rain (ba ba ba)
Good smells never seemed so good (so good, so good)
I’ve been inclined
To believe they never could
