I often wondered idly (not enuf to actually go and look it up) who Edmund Pettus was. The other day I found out: Confederate general and one of the original leaders of the Ku Klux Klan. Yeah, that bridge is long overdue for a relabelling, and I’ve got just the guy in mind to name it after.

BTW, folx a few decades younger than me, plus some nearer my own age who haven’t been paying attention, may have wondered what all the fuss was about a couple of days ago when it was announced that Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) had died of cancer. “Who was that guy? Why should I care?”

Those questions are amply answered by the just-released documentary film John Lewis: Good Trouble. It’s streaming on Google Play and will be the best 7 bux you spend all week.

Certain people will throw the ballot box off the bridge when nobody is looking.

RIP John Lewis. A true American in all the best ways…Caroline Randall Williams, great-great-granddaughter of Edmund Pettus, says renaming the bridge in Selma, Ala. for John Lewis would be a way to “put that bridge on the right side of history.” She tells Lawrence O’Donnell we then must restore the Voting Rights Act to protect “that unique power of American citizenship."
