Got to wonder, considering that the hearings on the USPS start 8/21 at 9AM with Dejoy, if this was coincidence or did GT and support staff schedule it perfectly.
Personally, I think this old GT cartoon is patently unfair. The post office never failed me the whole 33 years that I ran a consulting business, and I started it way before FedEx, fax, email and texting came along. Even after all those alternatives, bills and checks and formal letters to clients and executed legal docs all went through the US Mail, and it never missed a beat. Hats off to those people.
Overall, the Post Office does a pretty good job, in my experience. As for individual carriers, I find that their constant blabbing on their cells phones causes wrong mail to show up. Anybody can make a mistake, but I’ve found that the carriers who are cell phone addicts do give me my neighbors’ mail more often than the ones who aren’t. (According to the P.O., they are not even allowed to have cell phones at work – that’s a joke). Another annoying habit my current one had (to the point that I was ready to call and complain about her, which I didn’t want to do) was leaving the top of my mailbox open! I have no idea why; it closes very easily. I think she was just too busy yakking to pay attention. I didn’t care to have my mail exposed to rain, snow and wind, so I made a big font sign outlined in red. She’s finally stopped that, but if it happens again, I’ll have to report her. Okay, enough griping, lol!

Anecdotally mail takes for ever. The data says it is amazingly efficient. As a lifelong 56 year old letter writer I side with the latter.

This comic will get funnier the more times it is recycled.

I suppose Cliff Klavan from Cheers and Newman from Seinfeld are also timely commentary on the fake post office crisis too.

The USPS does a great job at a reasonable price especially considering how they are handicapped by an unreasonable pension obligation.

Right? It’s so uncanny that the cartoons are still relevant today. History tends to repeat itself.
