That’s the plan, but it takes time to execute unless you want to wind up as bad off as before. At least the U.S.A. is happy, 9/11 and other terrorism survivors are happy, and the fish in the Arabian Sea are happy.
Yes, thank you Thom. But I also agree with Dry.
Seeing all those young people chanting and celebrating in the street (although this one success won’t matter a hill of beans in their lives, and they probably don’t really remember 911). I can remember the ends of many wars - now WWI when rationing ended- THAT was something personal!
I was conflicted about the ending of bin Laden. On the one hand, I’m happy we have triumphed and eliminated such an evil enemy. On the other hand, the killing of any person is a terrible thing. I think it’s about 90/10 in favor of the former, but when I asked myself what I think we should be focused on, what I came to mind was the reason for eliminating that pile of scum.
That reason is the unjustified killing and loss of many innocents in the airplanes, the Twin Towers, in the fire departments, police departments, rescue departments, the military and more. I run this cartoon every Sept. 11 and I will do so again this year, but it is especially poignant and important we rememeber WHY our valiant military took out the trash.
Thank you all for your kind comments. We ALL lost a little piece of our national soul on that horrific day; perhaps now, we have obtained a little bit of the justice we deserve.
God bless America and all of you!
And thank you for reading this weirdly updated cartoon,
RCMinor, I will not comment on the cartoon - it should leave us with mixed emotions.
However, your assertion that all that waterboarding is what made this possible is not supported. One former Bush administration official said it, but that doesn’t make it true. If they had found that information by torture, they would have known it years ago - which they admit they didn’t. They discovered couriers in recent months and followed them. The compound had been there 5 years.
American soldiers have been “questioned” in many wars although they were in uniform. Taking actions against an enemy while not in uniform is universally considered spying. I see no problem in “questioning ” spies.
I understand the need for a sense of justice and bin Laden’s death is certainly that. But we all know that this is just the beginning of a new reign of terror from those who will avenge his death.
May God have mercy on us all. We can only hope that no one else is a diabolical as he was.

That’s one down… But it’s no more a solution in 2011 than it was in 1805.

To ALL the people at ground zero, those who rushed to help them, the people on flight 93 and to the people who loved them.

I doubt bin Laden would have allowed himself to be taken alive. Either way, we are rid of one evil man. So many more to go.
