A microchip is a pretty good idea but it would not help rescue a cat in a tree. And WHAT is happening in another exam room with Baba Mouse!?!?

Someone’s been watching too much Our IX Lives again, and I’m not sure if it’s Beatrix or Burt (quick on the chyrons as ever!) We’ll know if the news report starts developing a soundtrack big on dramatic stinger chords, I suppose…

I have a phobia about needles. So I understand the reluctance to get a shot/chipped. But as I said to my dentist… as she stopped after the first shot because I was very violently shaking… “No, I don’t want to stop. I want to get it over with!” Somethings are just necessary.

    C’mon now Beatrix

    No time for theatrics

If you’re going to rise up the tree

And be outside running so free

then it only makes sense to sensibly

Put down that paw, and show that Bea

    Knows Freedom requires Responsibility!

SO, you gotta take that shot

Girl, you gotta take your shot!!!

    Got a good reason

For taking Bea to the vet

    Got a good reason

For taking Bea to see Dr. Man now

    She’s a day tripper

    Likes to kick it, yeah

It took me so long to find out

    And I found out

    It’s not gonna please her

I took her to get some I.D.

    It’s not gonna please her

But she got stuck up a tree, now

    So let’s micro chip her

One way to get her back, yeah

It took me so long to find out

    She sneaks out

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

Day tripper, let’s chip her, yeah

    Day tripper, store skipper, yeah

    Day tripper, colonel flipper, yeah

From Crosby, Stills, and Nash: Teach Your Children Well

You who are at the Vet

Know sometimes that there must be some pain

And so just take a moment

Because the pain will lead to some gain

    …….

This helps you to be well,

It feels like hell, for just a moment

It’s done to keep you safe

If you get lost, we’ll know where you went

Sometimes we just don’t know why, if you know, you will cry,

Take a moment’s pain and sigh

    And know they love you.

    Today is:

Chewing Gum Day —Not a popular as it once was, to the relief those who hated scraping it off their shoes. I may have found the reason it’s popularity has declined: apparently most of it is now made with synthetic rubber. Hork! However, I do have a lifetime supply of Beeman’s. Considering my age, I’d best get chompin’.

International Translation Day —Since the Babelfish does not yet exist, and the Universal Translator will currently require many networked supercomputers of the quantum type, it is surprising anyone can communicate, even in the same language. Apropos of the situation, it is also:

International Blasphemy Rights Day —The right to cuss is, I think, a fundamental human right. Surprisingly often, it requires little, if any translation. If I say: !$%&#%#!!!, for example, you know perfectly well what I mean.

Ask a Stupid Question Day —There may be no stupid questions, but there are plenty of unintelligible answers … which demonstrates the need for more stupid questions.

National Hot Mulled Cider Day —As you are mulling over the next answer to a stupid question, have some hot mulled cider to clarify your thinking. And talk about a question of translation: there are five distinct definitions of the word “mull,” some of them spicier, or earthier, than others.

Bea’s calling the Doctor ‘Dude’ reminds me of a story when I was trying to sort out a problem with my Dad’s medication with a persnickety phone attendant:

Me: Look Dude, my Dad does is not going to take that medicine….

    Attendant: Don’t call me Dude.

Me: What ever you say Bro!

It is injected under the skin like a shot. While a microchip is potentially useful, be prepared for a lifetime of mailings from the company that handles the database.

Agreed, she needs a chip and a GPS collar if Bookstore Woman intends to keep letting her go outside. They are getting smaller and more sophisticated all the time and some even connect to your phone so you can keep track.

Definintely chip all your animals. Even our bunnies are chipped. We found a cat a couple of years ago we assumed was a feral, but then she got friendly. When we could finally get her in a carrier, PetSmart checked her chip – turned out she had been missing for TWO YEARS! That was an emotional reunion for sure.

Get a GPS collar as well. With the state of modern technology it’s going to be a while until those are small and powerfull enough to be injected.

Interesting plot thought. What if Dr. Man has the ability (still) to understand animal speech, “the way the best vets do”? Or at least reads whiskers? I keep thinking about Bea’s answer to him, and what if he could actually understand it?

I know there are a lot of movie enthusiasts in the Orb so I’m hoping someone can offer some info on this. Some time back, I was watching TCM and and saw something, it may have been one of those shorts they run between movies and i would like to identify it and maybe find it somewhere online. It had a young (and very handsome) Desi Arnaz in a jungle setting, singing and playing his conga drum. I think the song was Babalu but could have been something else. The main focus was on a dancing couple, the woman dressed in a very form-fitting snake suit that concealed her face as she slithered all over the man (I swear this was not a dream or figment of my imagination). Has anyone else seen this, and if so do you know the title of the film? Any help would be appreciated!
